How Not to Cry During Father Daughter Dance

Tusdae, on August 21, 2019 at 5:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
I can’t even make it 5 seconds into my father daughter dance song without crying. Anyone have any tips on how to keep it together?

My dad & I really aren't the crying emotional types, so we both tend to avoid super emotional things like a slow father daughter dance. We picked "Love and Happiness" by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris and took a dance lesson to learn the rumba box step. It was a really nice father/daughter thing to do together for the wedding since my dad really had no interest in flowers/dresses/etc. and the dance was a little faster and not a super slow swaying dance so it was more fun than emotional. We also did a first look with my dad & me, so that was a nice moment to have together alone before the wedding started.

I dont know! The first look with my dad and the FD dance were 2 of the times I cried! I didnt for the first look or dance with Hubs Haha.
But my dad isnt generally an emotional guy (my mom said shes only seen him cry a couple of times ie when he lost his parents/sister) and he cried twice on my wedding day which made me lose it Haha.
    Maybe a fun upbeat song?

It’s okay to feel things! Let yourself cry.

Why not cry? If that’s what you’re feeling it’s ok. My son got married last year and I cried the entire time we danced and so did he.

Oh, I figure we're going to bawl.

I just found a picture of my dad holding me as a baby, and we're just *staring* at each other. I'm going to try and get the worst of the crying out tomorrow and just drop it in his lap.

Figure that way we'll sob together 2 days before the wedding and can maybe just get pleasantly teary day of??

Go ahead and cry with your dad. They aren't sad tears, they are good, happy tears about knowing you're happy and he knows you're with someone worthy of you.

I am the future brides mom and I am wondering how I will keep it together during the father/daughter dance also.

I sobbed, almost the entire time.
He tried to make me laugh though so that helped too. I’m tearing up now just thinking about it. The photographer caught my ugly cry, but he got some great emotional filled shots too.
    Its ok to cry.

Just make sure you have waterproof makeup on and cry away.

Yeah totally something I’m struggling with as well. I’m not a crier or emotional person but I teared up at that at both my sisters’ weddings. I’m just worried about crying at any point during the day bc though I’m not a crier, when I do, I can’t make it stop, so here’s hoping for waterproof makeup lol
