It all depends on how much your gettting altered...if its a hem, plus taking it in at the waist and bust..it can be price-y. defiantely shop around and compare prices.. and dont forget to ask if they do the alterations and it still doesnt fit like a glove-will they continue to alter it with no additional cost. (they shouldn't charge for revisions)

Is it a gown that needs the hem altered or a regular dress? If it's a gown, in my area, the going rate for a hem is $100-150. They told me I will need probably 3 points for my bustle which will cost about $45-50 and then to have it pressed will cost $50. I don't expect to need mine hemmed b/c I was very anal about the measurements. I was told that Maggie would lengthen or shorten an inch or two for no charge. I even tried the dress on with shoes a height I would normally wear.

Estimate for hemming could be $50 to $200. Be prepared. But get a few quotes if you can--definitely more than one. GL

The place i am getting my dress from told me its 20$ to hem and another 20 to shorten the straps because they were beaded. I decided on another dress but my total alterations would of been 40$ since the dress was a clearance dress. The one I chose was a different one and I get three fittings and all alterations included. So definately shop around. Let me know if you are in Kansas and I'll hook you up with my dress shop!

It depends on how complicated the alterations are, the number of, and also the layers in the dress. My BM paid $40-$85. My mom paid $120? I paid almost 3x that. omg. But I went to a perfectionist, who was on the higher end and I live in an expensive cost of living area of that county. yikes. I could have saved about 70 bucks or so by taking a chance with someone less detail oriented...but it was very worth it to me to go to a perfectionist.

There was a post on here yesterday about alterations. It was closed to Vendors so I couldn't respond. It had a link to the site of an "Alteration Specialist" in Ohio and I thought she gave very good advice and explanations.

Basically it depends on where you live and what needs to be done on the dress.
