How much is too much for a photographer?

Hey guys!

Just to get an estimate....how much are you ladies spending on a photographer for your wedding? My soon to be sister in-law is a great photographer and offered to take the pictures for us at our wedding, but I'm worried she won't find time to enjoy the wedding while doing it (kind of stressful I've heard) not to mention I want her in the pictures! So I'm trying to budget for a professional photographer, but I'm not sure what a good estimate is.

$2,300 for 2 photographers (one 8 hours, one 6 hours) including digital negatives and a wedding Album. It was more than I wanted to spend but am very comfortable with the decision.

I'm in Maryland and paying $1400 for ours. It's 2 shooters, all day coverage, engagement shoot, rights to the pictures....that being said we got a REALLY good deal because we booked them right before they raised their prices....photographers around here range from $1,000-$5,000 typically

I think it depends on a few things:
    cost of wedding
    how many guests/ how big
whats included in the package (engagement shoot, love story, before after ceremony reception and more)
    2nd shooter
is there an album included, prints? website

Overall I wouldn;t spend more that 2500 for pictures for a wedding of 200 people or less. My wedding is 80 people, my photography budget was 1000, I found a photographer for 800 for 8 hours total. However there is no engagement shoot. And she is my highschool classmate's sister. She is also doing my makeup free as a courtsey due to us knowing each other. Her usual price is 1200 so I am getting a deal PLUS she has s 2nd photographer. She is a makeup artist and photographer.

I'm from the burbs of Chicago and we're paying $4300 for ours. It's 9 hours of shooting for two photographers, engagement session, 2 shooters, rights to all the pics, professionally edited pics and photo albums. I love this photographers work and feel that she's worth every penny.

Honestly, that is a hard question. I realized that choosing a photographer is like buying a house. You really need to know what's your style, what you need and what you want. What you can live with and what you can't. I chose someone based on their experience, style and what they can offer. I was lucky that they did a private event for my family in January. So I got honest feedback from my mom on their style and professionalism. For $2600 , I'm getting two photographers, video and albums. I also live on Long Island where photographers range from $1000 to $10,000.

Ours will be $2000. The price includes 8 hours of coverage and a CD with all the pictures they took and edited. We chose them because they go to back to the studio right after the wedding and put them on their computer there and then go home and put them on the computer there. They also use a camera that has 2 memory cards. We feel very secure that our pictures will not be lost! Also they showed us how they edit pictures compared to others. We were very pleased Smiley smile Just depends on what you want. Goodluck!

I am spending $700 full day print rights and cd luckily we booked her before her prices jumped to $1000+

Make sure you look around. Look at there photos see what you like what you don't like there is a photographer around here that everyone was recommending to me that literally all she does it tacky stuff for photos like only making it black and white you can tell she does free online editing software. I know a lot of photographers here are booking 2014/2015 weddings already so be prepared to here they are booked my all time favorite photographer was booked 2nd way out of price range talking $2,400+ this girl is my 3rd favorite and she is moving her way on up in my books. Good Luck!!

We are paying 3600 for ours (Boston area wedding). A friend who is a pro photographer told us that anyone in our area charging under 2k would probably not be the best quality. Our package includes a lot of photo time (I think 8 hours but maybe 10), a photo book and rights to all the photos.

I would recommend hiring a pro for the reasons you mentioned, and because if for some reason you don't like the photos you won't feel bad saying so. Photography is expensive but worth it in my opinion! If you decide to go pro, it is worth paying more for the quality. You don't want to end up with these: http://www.today.com/id/42452854
