How Much is TOO Much for a Flower Girl Dress? Also Ring Bearers....

Marilyn, on September 8, 2012 at 12:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I found the dress I want my flower girls to wear. It is $140 though, and I want them to wear cowboy boots with it... is that too much to ask their parents to spend? My FMIL was going to make them, but I don't know if I want her to, since I found these dresses I love!

Also, can I see your ring bearer outfits? And where did you find them? I literally cannot find any! Smiley sad

I don't have a pic of the ring bearer outfit, but my SIL found it at zulily.com and it is adorable and was fairly inexpensive. And FG dresses I had the same debate.. I am unsure what to suggest as being too much. SIL and I are making ours and spent I think $40 for material and supplies for both dresses. Smiley smile

I think $140 is quite a bit for a dress a kid probably will not be able to wear again and will outgrow in 6 months. Add in the cost of cowboy boots that will also be outgrown quickly.

    I also think it's quite a bit.

Yes that is too much to spend on a childs dress. We got the clothing for our grand daughters prettyflowergirl.com the dresses are very reasonable.

For us it would be way too much, I found my daughters flower girl dress for $45 and her shoes for $15, but my SIL`s flowergirl dresses cost $199, her son is our ring bearer and he is renting a matching tux as the wedding party, his tux rental was $190, I told her he could wear a cheaper tux but she stuck with that one

Look on Ebay and Amazon. They have some really inexpensive flower girl dresses that are super adorable. To answer your question, yes you are asking the parents to spend too much for a child's dress that she'll probably never wear again.

Okay! That's what I thought! Thank you for your advice. If you have any further recommendations for flower girl dress websites or ring bearer's outfit websites it would be HIGHLY appreciated!

I am looking for yellow gingham flower girl dresses, but on the fancy side and tan suit pants, with matching vest and hat for ring bearer.

Can you post a picture of the original dress that you had in mind?

These websites both seem to have a LOT of options. Maybe you can find something similar to the dress you love. I haven't ordered from them, so I can't speak to the quality or customer service.

Not sure if they have any gingham dresses. One alternative might be to select a plain yellow dress, and ask FMIL to make matching yellow gingham sashes and headbands? She could probably even add some fabric flowers, if that fit with your style. Good luck!

Our flower girl dresses were $100 and the shoes were $15 - I felt bad making them pay THAT much but no one seemed to mind one bit. They've actually worn them again so it worked out well Smiley smile

I got the fg dress and rb tuxedo from ebay.

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/designerkidsfashion888/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

I paid for both outfits, $22 for tuxedo and $25 for fg dress and headband

Her sash was brown and headband also to match my girls. The FG loved her dress! She kept coming up to me all night to make sure I knew how much she loved it. =)

My flower girls dresses were about $110.00 each and I have 2 girls and they are sisters.

The mom didn't mind but I felt bad since the mom is my MOH and her other daughter is a Jr. On top of that her DH is a GM and son is a Jr. So for that family to be in my wedding it's costing them about $1000.00 just on clothes! Plus shoes & jewlery and traving out of state to come here! They are true friends!!!!

I think it's too much to ask someone else to spend. If you have the funds and want to gift them with it that would be very different. DH and I like pricey things so when it came to our bridal party we paid for all their outfits.

I agree that is a little much for a flower girl dress...some people may be willing to spend that tho. I wanted the flower girl dress to be as close to $50 as I could get it because her brother is our ring bearer and both her parents are in the wedding party so I wanted everything to be affordable. I don't know the exact site we found the dress on but similar ones were 120 and this one was about 50 and the ring bearer tux we ordered on ebay and only paid about 25 for it that is including s & h.

Maybe ask her what her budget is if you feel comfortable? I wouldn't tell her the price yet unless she says something close to the price of the dress. Maybe you can gift the boots? I'm searching for FG dresses for you now...your colors are yellow and navy, right? Do you specifically want them in yellow?
