How much is the dinnerware on your registry?

How much is the dinnerware on your registry? We are registering for a casual set of dinnerware and no china. The set we are looking at is the Noritake Graphite Rim and it is about $40 a place setting. We are putting 12 place settings on the registry. Is this too pricey to put on a registry or is $40...

Yeah I agree on no fine china it's something that most people do not use today, I know we wouldn't. The bigger issue I've been having with the dinnerware and the price is any place settings under $40 do not seem to have matching extras. I want the matching serve ware, butter dish, creamer, sugar, gravy boat and other options. That's also a big part of why I like the Noritake set because it has all of the extras. Any set I've found that I like that's cheaper and sells it in a box of 4 place settings, either does not have the matching extras or if it's a BBB the extra pieces are not carried in the store. I want to make it easy for my guests and not have them need to order items in and wait.

I did something crazy this weekend.... I bought china!!

I looked on Craigslist a few days ago for "Noritake". I wanted to make sure my pattren wasn't available there, especially those expensives "extras".

I found a better pattern! A lady was selling her MIL's entire set. We got a complete 12-people place setting, 2 platters, 4 bowls, and the "extras" for $450. On replacements.com this set would cost $1,900. When I looked for comparative on BBB, it would cost around $2,500.

We paid $450. Totally worth it. We spent a few days discussing it. It came with the protective cases too, thought they are a little old and we need to replace them.

LOL, just recently started looking at possibily dinnerware for registry. I've put i few things onthere, but I might be making changes. I've read that you should request both casual set and fine set, but I honestly think thats nonsense... I'd be fine with using the cheap kind that won't break when you drop it (its some sort of a really hard plastic material, i think) on daily basis, and then the "nicer" (fragile but casual set) for nice dinners or like when guests come.... how does that sound?

Wow, I guess I just don't think my guests are willing to spend that much on us. Or maybe it's just that I know I wouldn't spend that much for one place setting and if we didn't get the full set I didn't want to have to buy the rest...

We registered for two sets of 4 place settings for $65 on Amazon. I thought it was a good price for an fancy everyday set. When FI's grandmother found out we weren't registering for china she was disappointing but agreed we made a good choice with the Cutco knives so she was happy. lol
