how much is a "love offering"?

I met with my pastor, who was mine and my FH's vice principal back in middle school, we don't currently go to church, he is more than happy to marry us, and for free, but normally asks for a "love offering" but also said he's not worried about one from us "im just so thrilled yall remembered me and came to ask me" I want to give him something, but we are doing the whole wedding on a tiny budget, which he knows, and I'm unsure as to how much would be an insult and how much would be acceptable.... Any advice?

    Will the ceremony be in a church? If so, the love offering would be a contribution/donation to the church (and maybe to him). Would there be a musician provided and maybe an on-site coordinator?

    If outside the church, it would be to just him.

    It's at a friend's house in the backyard, pretty low key really, playlist on mp3 player for music, he is just going to show up 30 mins early, his preference, and preform ceremony and with our past linked he is welcome to stay for reception and food, no premarital counseling or anything extra

    In that case Im sure he would appreciate any kind of token. Im sure he doesn't expect much. Whatever you can afford.

    I would suggest making a donation to his church (even if it's just $25) then maybe giving him a personal gift.
