How much is a dress worth??

I love watching Say Yes to the Dress, but dang, I can't see myself spending $5k and up. How much are you guys budgeting for a dress? I myself am only allowing $1,200. And does a specific designer make a difference to you??

I didnt want to spend more than 1500. I was able to get a Maggie sottero for 1400 and the boutique does free alterations...felt like that was a fair price especially bc alterations can be costly.

Honestly it was so much fun. We made a weekend of it and did a girls trip up to NYC. I didn’t apply for the show, so when I went they weren’t actually filming. There were a ton of people there so it was a little overwhelming at first, but I ended up having so much fun trying on amazing dresses. I love Hailey Paige but didn’t want to spend that kind of money. I ended up with a style similar to hers and just loved the experience. Never planned on buying there but it was just so much fun. My mom and aunt were running around taking pictures with the other consultants while I was changing dresses. I would absolutely recommend going but make sure you’re either honest about your budget or absolutely able to say no if you fall in love with something over your budget.

I didn't care about the designer. I said my max was $2000, but even that seemed like a lot to me. The dress I fell in love with fit me like a glove, so I purchased that one off the rack for $1200 with alternations costing about $150 for a bustle and darts.

I budgeted $2500 for my dress, mainly because I wanted a Watters/Willowby/WTOO dress. I ended up finding one I loved on StillWhite in perfect condition and my size for $750. I bought it and the only alterations it needs is to be shortened because I won't be wearing heels like the original bride did. Otherwise, our measurements matched up.
I'm using the rest of the dress budget on other wedding things.

2nd marriage for me budgeted $500 came in under that price and my dress I great. I love it. 1st marriage I payed same price. I cannot see paying more than $600 for a dress unless you really can afford it. I'm a practical person

My mom wanted to pay for my dress. I found a Maggie Sottero dress that was originally $2,300 on sale at a boutique for $1,500 (after tax). I did not necessarily care about the designer but I did know that I liked her style and ultimately after trying on 10+ dresses in the boutique it was the only one that actually looked like me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Plus my mom cried and said it was the one and that is kind of hard to ignore haha

Haven't gotten to the alterations part of the process just yet.

I started out with a Pinterest board to get an idea of what style of dresses I like. Then I noticed that i gravitated towards a particular style of dress by a particular designer. I research it more. Mine end up being by Essence of Australia. I spent 1600, but I called around to different shops who carried that designer to see how much it would be to order it. Shops closer to bigger cities had an increase in price. I end up with a shop closer to home and saved $300 for buying it in a smaller city.

With the 👰👗➕Alterations➕Dry cleaning, I spent less than 💲4️⃣0️⃣0️⃣⏺0️⃣0️⃣.

I just don’t believe in going broke or into debt for a celebration that’s only going to be part of ONE day of your life. There are bills that will need to be paid the day, week, and month after that ONE day.

My dress and veil were $2,300, alterations were $350 and then $150 for shipping since I bought it out of state. I didn’t pay attention to designer, just shopped by look, fit and color I wanted. Also, I didn’t know the price of the dress until after I said yes.

I set a budget for $700. I think it is reasonable. I am on a budget so I figured that $700 is a good amount

My dress was originally $2,000. It didn’t sell in the boutique so they lowered the price to $1,200. Still didn’t sell. It is a silk ball gown.

The seamstress in town got it in a big lot sale and I picked it up for $300. She’s charging me $100 in alterations which include either adding a corset back or letting the sides out a bit, hemming, steaming, and adding the 5 bustles it needs. Im using some of my late mother’s beads to add a little something to the shoulders. She bought $400 worth of beads for my sisters wedding veil and since she knew she wouldn’t be here for my wedding to make my veil, she gave me all of the supplies.

My bridesmaid has a magnolia tree in her yard so those will be my flowers. I can’t see spending thousands on flowers that are going to die. 🤷‍♀️

My entire wedding budget is $2,000.

I only wanted to spend $1,000 but I fell in love with a dress a bit higher and my mom and dad offered to pay for it. To me, it's not about what it's "worth", its about how it makes you feel

My cap is 1,500 unfortunately the shop I went to didn’t take my budget to seriously so now I’m attached to a dress that’s about $1,000 over my budget. Luckily my mom is offering to split the bill with me
