How much is a dress worth??

Jill, on October 7, 2019 at 4:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 34

I love watching Say Yes to the Dress, but dang, I can't see myself spending $5k and up. How much are you guys budgeting for a dress? I myself am only allowing $1,200. And does a specific designer make a difference to you??

My dress was $2k plus $500 in alterations. There were designers whose gowns I liked, but I didn’t pick my dress specifically because of the designer.

I budgeted $600 and came in under that. While I want to look beautiful, I can't stomach paying a mini fortune for a dress I will wear once. And I feel beautiful in what may be called an "inexpensive" dress (which was pricey enough for me). I don't care about designer, just quality and comfort.

    I budgeted $2k and spent $1200 - haven’t done alterations yet. I didn’t care about the designer.

My mom paid for my dress and wanted to keep it under $2000. With tax it was around $1800. The boutique I got my dress at was wonderful about only pulling dresses within my budget (despite my mom wanting me to try everything over budget, of course 😉).

When I went to David’s they only wanted to show me the most expensive dresses! I actually drove about 35 minutes across the state line into Wisconsin to get my dress and it worked out so well! When you do go shopping, cap your budget lower and then say you have a certain amount of wiggle room if you’re not liking anything.

Budgeted 2k plus 500 in alterations. The dress ended up being purchased for me as a gift at under 1400. Waiting to see what alterations will run.

Thank you for that advice! I had thought about doing that, telling them a different price than what Im actually willing to spend.

Poshmark! Really recommend looking there. I'm all about the deal and not afraid of second hand or sample dresses.

I'd said $500 for my wedding dress but ended up spending $599. I still need to get a bustle on it though.

I actually got mine at Kleinfeld and it was only $1,300. So if they have a less expensive line, I’m sure most stores do. I went in to humor my mom and ended up well below my real life budget. I won’t be doing my alterations there, no idea what they will run.

No they’re not. They quoted me a flat rate of $795, which you can include in your payment up front, but unless you bought during some sort of promotion they are definitely not free.

I haven’t picked out my dress yet but my mom is paying for it. I asked her what my budget was and her response was “ Average wedding gown price last year was 1600 so adding 10% for inflation you got about 2 k”
