How much for his suit?

yvonne, on June 27, 2017 at 7:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 42

Just wondered.. Since the dresses usually are really important and expensive, how do your FH feel about their suits? Is a wedding suit any different than a normal suit? Do they cost usually more? Compared to your dresses, how much does a suit cost? 1/2, 1/3 or much less? My Fiance really does not care about what he wears, but i fear he will regret it later and that`s why i want to make sure he gets something appropriate. Thanks in advance for any advise.

It depends on if he rents or buys. My FH bought a custom suit from Men's Wearhiuse for about $500. Renting is cheaper (and I know Men's Wearhouse has a promo where if all your groomsmen rent from them, FH can rent for free...but the rental options are limited).

Thanks Heidi, we can only buy because a normal suit does not fit him ( sport related). 500 sounds like a good price for custom made!

You can buy or rent. Look at what you want long term.

We rented tuxedos and it cost like $700 for 5 rentals, so cheap!

After all the groomsmen order their suit his suit was free and he could've use the $500 to buy a suit or use it toward another free suit for whoever

We rented a Vera wang tux and it was $260 at men's warehouse. My dress was quite a bit more. It doesn't matter how much his outfit costs. As long as he feels good about the way he looks.

My FHs suit was $1,000 but he wears suits to work so the investment was worth it.

My FH bought his on sale at JCPenny for about $150. Grey pants, vest, and jacket that fit him perfectly.

Free from Men's Warehouse because we caught a special. The groomsmen are paying about $200 to rent, though.

I think it depends on the guy. Someone that works in a high profile industry that wears expensive suits regularly may spend a bit more on a custom suit...someone that never wears a suit would likely be just as happy in a $200 suit from jos a . banks or macys. There is absolutely nothing wrong with anything they choose. They should feel confident and handsome in their look too, regardless of cost. More than likely it will be considerably less than the cost of your dress though (Ex: my dress $2200 before alterations, his suit $400 before tailoring)

We got out suits from Macy's. It was a great experience, and they really went above and beyond for us. We purchased, and they even gave us coupons.

As for budget, if it were up to DH, my wedding dress budget would have been $100. So I started showing him $100 dresses and he goes "oh that's not what I like at all." Then he started looking at dresses he did like and they were all over $1k. So my budget was back to what I wanted it at.

Wedding suits don't necessarily look different! Find one that's within whatever his budget and the GM's budget.

I don't know what H paid for his suit, but he bought it at K&G, so I don't think it was a fortune. I thought it looked very good on him, and he can wear it again for two more wedding this year!

I went to a bridal show and contracted with a reputable tuxedo company in my area. They give us two free tux rentals, as well as a free suit (to keep) for the groom. I would shop around and find someone with a good deal, or wait until you can attend a bridal show in your area to find a good deal.

But I don't think it needs to be a certain percentage of your dress cost, but rather what he wants and you can afford.

Suits can vary dramatically in price just like dresses, based on quality and the type of fabric. My husband spent over $2k on a bespoke suit made from an expensive Italian fabric. I spent a lot on my dress and he wanted to wear something special as well.

You obviously don't have to spend that much though. You can buy nice suits for a lot less. I *always* think it's better to buy than rent so that the groom is getting a perfectly tailored suit. You don't have to go bespoke, but even if buying off the rack, at least it can be tailored to fit. I have never understood why brides often spend $1000 or more for a beautiful gown and grooms go for a cheap rental that is poor-fitting and frankly looks sloppy (many of them do) that dozens of other grooms have worn. The rental idea has never made sense to me.

DH's suit/shirt/shoes/tie added up to probably $500, and was purchased from Men's Warehouse. The GM also bought suits - however we paid for their shoes/shirts/ties so that their cost was only $250.

ETA: They run sales often - we purchased when they had a sale on $799 Kenneth Cole suits for $250.

I got his suit during a memorial day sale at a van huesen outlet. $175 for pants, jacket, shirt, belt, tie and socks.

It would have been $150 to rent his suit. And FH could have cared less what he wore, as long as it was black.

In comparison, I spent $400 on my custom dress.

My FH has no need for a suit in his regular life so we decided to rent. We're going a slightly more casual route. Renting pants, shirt and vest from Men's Warehouse is $125.

My dress was a steal (IMO) at $835 before alterations.

FH bought a really nice tuxedo, it cost nearly twice what my dress cost. But it will last him forever and I'll never wear the dress again.
