That's the standard price for alterations there. However, depending what alterations you need, you could probably take it to a bridal seamstress who could do the same thing for much less.

If you get your alterations at the bridal store they will charge you so much more! I've had friends that work at bridal stores who tell me to price check different places first.

I got my dress at David’s Bridal and they told me alterations would run $300-350. I took my dress to the local tailor who used to hem my other dresses, work slacks, and jeans. They have a bridal specialist onsite. They charged me $140. My dress was hemmed, taken in, a string tying the back was removed, a clasp replacing the string was inserted, and I had cups sewn in. ETA - highly recommend looking into somewhere local if they’re familiar with bridal gowns.

My bridal Salon was about the same as David's bridal (I had two dresses one from a local shop and one from DB). Both around 400.

I got mine from RK Bridal as well! I was told (and it says in my paperwork, which looked pretty standard) they cap alterations fees at $600. So you definitely shouldn't be paying more than $600 there, no matter what they do.

The benefit of RK alternations is they'll store your dress for free until your wedding. I don't know if local places will store it for that long, but I'm also wondering about taking my dress somewhere local. I need the straps changed, cups sewn in, and it has to be taken in, and I have a feeling that'll end up costing the full $600 there.

I got my alterations done at the bridal shop I got my dress at.

They hemmed it a little, added bustles, and sewed in straps (it came strapless). Total was $275 for alterations, which surprised me, considering the dress itself cost just over $1600 after tax!!

I had a hem done. They added bra cups and darts. They also bustled a 3 point setup. It was $300.

It depends what they're doing to it. I'm not getting mine done at the shop I got it from. I went to an independent seamstress. I got a great deal, I think. Straps taken in, hem, bustle and I'm getting the illusion back redone where it meets the dress. $375

I went to Kleinfeld's. My dress was $2,500 but alterations is a flat -- and whopping -- $850. I just bit the bullet and did it.

Most bridal books that I read said to estimate a minimum of 25% of your dress's cost for alterations, but that more extensive alterations can cost a lot more. Hemming can also be pricey is your dress has a lot of layers.

Where I got my dress from charges a flat fee of $425 for standard alterations which include hemming, bustling, taking in or letting out up to 2 sizes worth of fabric, and a few other common things. Doing extra costs extra, like adding sleeves

I got my dress at RK too but like pp they told me a flat fee for the basic stuff. Hem bustles taking in or out etc.

If you are doing more, that's where the added cost could be from.

Yup, at least for me too. My dress was under $1,300, but I'm stil dealing with a sticker shock of a little over a $1,000 for alterations. I might as well have bought a new dress with that price. Still feeling angry about this, and I don't even feel I look good in my dress. It's made me really resentful about my dress.

Wow ladies good info .... I wanna do my research my situation is a bit difficult i had a baby 17 months ago and gained 92 pounds I've lost 69 so I need another 35 pounds down to go the lady at the bridal store told me to get the dress in the size that iam so I did that and I'll get it by April but I'm scared that I would be 35 pounds lighter by that time I hope they don't charge 1000 for making the dress smaller

My salon caps alterations at $575 and the bustle at $225. If I take it elsewhere and anything goes wrong, there's nothing I can do. If the salon makes any mistake, the they will need to replace the gown.

I paid $600 for alterations, and also was very upset. I went to a local bridal tailor and think she overcharged me. But I had the dress hemmed, let out, a bustle, new zipper, and cups put in. OP If you lose 35 lbs by April (and great job btw!), I will be several hundred dollars at least to take a dress in several sizes. I had a friend who paid $700 to have hers taken in several sizes on top. $1000 seems a little high, but I would expect to pay over $500 based on what the dress will likely need.

I went to the independent seamstress recommended by my bridal salon (no in house seamstress) and ended up paying $500 for: reconstructing the upper back (was too much fabric and floppy but heavily beaded), taking boning out of the chest, 9 point bustle.

When I bought the dress, I paid extra to have it made to my height specifications and to add the straps and sleeves to an otherwise strapless dress. It also ended up making my back of the dress a much lower back (and prettier in my opinion).

I got mine at a boutique shop, and had their seamstress Alter my dress. She added a lining to the top, cups, bustle, tacked some loose lace (I bought a sample), hemmed the under skirt and that came to $395.
