How much did your floral tall centerpiece cost you?

M&M, on January 31, 2014 at 3:27 PM Posted in Planning 1 27

Hello all!

So I'm currently thinking about centerpieces for my wedding and I really like the tall floral centerpieces. I am not picky about certain types of flowers and am willing to incorporate variety including carnations, hydrangeas, baby's breath, roses, etc. For those of you who went through a florist, how much did they charge you per centerpiece? How about those who DIY? I just want to gauge the average price so I can have realistic expectations before contacting florists. Im in NJ if that makes a difference. I'm just a little worried because I am having a large wedding and will need 35-40 centerpieces and I kind of splurged in other categories and so I was hoping to contain costs in this category as much as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you!!

Mine are $75 per centerpiece and consist of white hydrangeas/purple stock/bells of ireland on a tall vase filled with limes.

My larger centerpieces are $90. They are hydrangeas only.

Mine were $100 each, tall with white hydrangeas at the bottom, black curly willow, peacock feathers and purple lizeanthus (similar to my pic) . I am doing every other table with floral centerpieces though to cut down on cost and add some height and variety to the room, my other centerpieces will be mirrors with floating candles and purple led lights

I'll have a mix of high and low centerpieces. The tall ones are 140 and the low ones are 115.

Mine were $90 each and I'm in Los Angeles. They consisted of mostly roses and hydrangeas. This was a pretty good price. Most of the other florists were quoting over $100 each.

Can I just make an argument against tall centerpieces. If you still go with it, great, your decision, but I hate them as a guest. They are tough to have "table" conversations, and only leave me talking to a couple of people at the table...

I was thinking of that as well, that the tall centerpieces get in the way. I wonder how much less a "less tall" centerpiece would be?

Another question, when you meet with a florist, you give them your budget up front and they tell you what your options are within your budget, correct?

Yes, the florist will work within your budget.

I agree that tall centerpieces can be annoying as a guest. However, mine will be on thin candelabras and the biggest part won't block people's view.

Mine were quoted at $145 each but I get to keep the vases after (so I can make a little money back on ebay or CL or something) and then I also requested very tropical flowers which are more expensive. I think tall centerpieces really make the room stand out and look amazing! Also I read somewhere that to make sure the centerpiece doesn't get in the way of your guests then the flowers should start at least 20 inches above the table. I think the vases we were quoted for are 24 inches.

@AmyS, thats exactly what I'm afraid of because that seems to keep happening to me as well so i want to set a realistic budget and actually stick to it for this category.

@HappyinHawaii, is it standard to pay for the vases or do you usually just rent them from the florist? I don't need that many vases afterward and I don't want to have to deal with selling them.

@MissMadeline, thanks!! I keep going back and forth on tall vs not tall, so for now I'm keeping an open mind and maybe ill end up alternating, who knows.

Ours will resemble the photo I added only the flowers will be a mix of white hydrangeas and white garden roses and there will be small medium and large size pearls in the bottom of the vase.

    They are $78 per

Which was much less expensive than when I priced out making them myself(around 120)

Also if you would like to cut down on the cost, have two different kinds of centrepieces one that is a less expensive version and the tall ones.

Seeing as you need so many it my be a good idea to have half large and half a short version, just an idea Smiley laugh

I haven't met with more than one florist so I don't actually know about the vases. I was under the impression that they were always rented, but then she told us that we'd get to keep ours so that was surprising. Yes it will definitely be a hassle trying to sell, especially since you have so many but we're only expecting to use 8-10 so I don't think it'll be too bad. I like the idea for that many tables to have alternating high and low. Otherwise it might look to be way too much.

Mine will be $30-$45 a piece including vase... wooot wooot!! I'm not going to a florist, I'm going straight to a supplier and they will make them and deliver.

Where did you all find your tall pedestals for the high centerpieces? I've searched all over for a gold candlestick with bowl on top.

M&M were you able to find a florist that could provide you tall arrangements less than $75. I'm a freelance florist and my company Rison would be able to work with your budget, preferences, and style.
