Hi girls! So I am in the process of selecting my dress and I know exactly what I want when I see it. This wasn’t the exception, I saw the beautiful dress by Berta and I completely fell in love. Hi girls!
So I am in the process of selecting my dress and I know exactly what I want when I see it. This wasn’t the exception, I saw the beautiful dress by Berta and I completely fell in love. What wasn’t so lovely about it? The price, it is about $6900 in most stores. I gave up on it but whenever I went to try dresses I kept looking for something that looked like that and, not surprisingly, they just didn’t compare. A few months passed and today I found a great deal which is still pretty out if my budget ($3000) but was priced about 35% less than the original price. It is from a trustworthy boutique and they assured me it has all the tags, it even it’s my size! Anyways, the point is that I am not sure if I could justify spending so much on a dress I am only wearing for a few hours. Any advice? How much did you spend on yours?

This is totally a personal choice. I couldn't justify spending more than $1000 on a dress I wore for 8ish hours. I bought my dress for $590 and spent another $200 on a tulle overskirt. It's now sitting in my closet.

In my opinion, there are a TON of beautiful dress options that are way way way cheaper than those overpriced designer gowns. Of course, how you spend your money is totally up to you, but I would have rather put more money towards awesome food or alcohol or another cool vendor than spent it on an outfit.

I think we get very caught up on finding "the one" but realistically when you are all dolled up pretty much any dress can/will look amazing on you on your wedding day. The trick is to set a budget early, and then only look at and try on the ones you can afford.

My dress was $1,400. I was uncomfortable spending that much.

I spent $1,600 on my dress then another $750 on alterations. My veil was $200. My budget in the beginning for just the dress was $2,000.

I went in with no budget. Including alterations and preservation my dress was about $1200 - I would put it on and wear it every day if I could.

Mine was $750 from David's Bridal without alterations (mom and dad are paying for those). I felt it was unnecessary to spend so much on a dress and I wanted to stay around $500. And of course I fell in love with a brand new style haha.

My budget for a dress was 600$ but each dress I kept trying on did not give me the "YES" feeling. Found my dress for 773$. Perfect fit, I just will need to add straps and maybe bustle and will probably end up spending 900-1000$ in total. Doing a payment plan also helps if you really want to get the dress.

For my veil, dress and belt the total was little over $2900 so just about what yours is! My dad offered to pay for my dress. If the dress is 100% what you want then I say go for it if you can afford it!

Instead of buying what is labeled a “wedding gown/dress,” I bought a simple Calvin Klein white dress for $100.

$1500 on my dress (off the rack)
    $500 on alterations
$20 on the veil materials (my mom made it)
$15 on earrings that looked expensive 😂
    $60 on shoes

if you want to splurge on your dress, there are other places you can save on to keep the total cost of your outfit down. The fact that people spend hundreds on a veil blew my mind. I said I didn’t want one in that case but my mom hand-sewed me one and it was beautiful. I wore the sparkly white Kate Spade Keds, which were on sale when I bought them (were super comfortable, great for dancing!). If you buy the dress in your size, you’ll save on alterations.

I spent $1500 before alterations. I honestly didn’t even want to spend that much for a one day dress. But I loved it! There’s so many out there. Look until you find the right one Smiley smile

It really is up to your personal budget as only you know how it is going to impact you in the long run or how important the dress is to you. I spent approx $2100 CAD on the dress, $400 CAD on material to have sleeves made and $1000 CAD on alterations. With all the other accessories my total outfit cost approx $4200 CAD (which translates to approx $3100 USD I think)

I ended up spending double the amount I wanted to, but in the end, it didnt break the bank and all is good! I didnt wanna spend more than $1k, but after alterations and a little custom work, it ended up being closer to $2k.

Everyone has a different answer/ perspective on this, I looked all over before I found my dress dress, which also HAD to be at a dream price for me. I LOVE my dress, it was $415 with custom sizing from Azazie. It's the "Honey" style in diamond white. My sister is putting in the bustle ($5 for a button and string.) My veil was $30 on Amazon and my shoes were $35 on Amazon. It easily looks like I spent THOUSANDS of dollars on the look.

My budget was $1,500 for the dress and the dress I picked was $1,700 but if you ordered it the same day you tried it on, you got a discount which ended up putting it under my budget. Taxes included, it was just under $1,500. My alterations were $300 and my veil was $200. So in total, I spent about $2,000.

I didn't have a dress budget, so to speak. We make good money and I'm sure I could've gotten what I wanted. However, I am a frugal person by nature so I refused to spend more than $1000. When I went dress shopping my mom ended up going to the counter and paying for it, so go figure...

Anyhow, point being, everyone is different. If this dress is special and important to you and you won't have to sacrifice in other areas of your budged, then by all means, do it. If purchasing this dress means that you don't get the flowers you want or take the honeymoon you've been dying to take, it might not be worth it.

I was very blessed to have found a boutique (all proceeds go to a nonprofit that helps women rescued from the sex trafficking industry) with a beautiful selection of gowns at great prices. I found a sample Cassablanca that is MY dress for only 3%of my budget! I personally think the budget should guide your shopping. Set a number first and don't even look at dresses outside of it. Of course there are gorgeous dresses at different price points, but if you can't afford it, it's simply not for you. That being said, if your dress is a top priority of the overall wedding, you can borrow funds from other parts of the wedding budget to make it work. Talk to your fiance. Overall though imho don't let budget and finances get in the way of you and future spouse starting married life on the right foot. No debt> a dress, no matter how beautiful.
