How much did you pay to have your ring resized?

krystle d, on July 18, 2012 at 10:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I've come to the conclusion that my ring is slightly bigger than I'd like it to be. I'm afraid it'll slip off my finger one day and I think I just need it a half size smaller. I bought it off of Amazon so I'd have to take it to a jeweler. How much did you pay to have to have your ring resized?

Hmmm thanks for the advice...I was actually wondering that too. I wonder why they wouldn't be able to resize it. Guess I would have to go to a shop and see if they could do it to mine.

Oh I see thank you Smiley smile I hope I can get my ring resized..I'm a size 4 and possibly needing a size 3 1/2 so it wouldn't be too much of a difference.

I think mine was about $20. Sizing it up would have been a much bigger deal than sizing it down, because mine is 22 karat gold, which is hard to get in this country. But sizing a gold ring down should not be a big issue. The only rings that can't be resized are those made of other metals, like titanium.

Also, mine has side stones so maybe that might complicate things but I hope not.

I honestly don't even think it will cost you more than 50$, but good luck!

And I am jealous of your little tiny fingers lol

My first resizing was free, but if I need to do it again it will be $25. Side stones should not be a problem. If you have an eternity band type of ring or one with a lot of etching and details all the way around it might be harder to resize and could cost more, but I don't see side stones being too big a hassle.

My FH got the ring online (came with papers--no worries Smiley winking and it was a size 6 ...he thought he measured my finger against his pinky and guessed that was it....boy was he wrong. I went down 2+ sizes and it would have only cost about $25 but there was a snafu with scheduling and my ring went into the 'wait' bin instead of the 'rush' bin and I was without my ring for a day (the audacity) lol. SO...it was free.

My jeweler will resize mine and replace anything that breaks because of a package I bought, I had a ring years ago that they charged me 20 bucks to resize, and ive had jewelry repaired for about 50, it depends on the jeweler. Usually even the side stones can be worked around, mine has small stones around about 3/4's of the ring, and my band has about 3/4's as well with a design surrounding them and they had no issue making mine a 4. Usually as long as its within a certain size range ( i think anything over 1.5 sizes changes the ring too much) but if one says no, Id continue to look, some people wont touch any outside jewelry since they dont know quality.

My resizing was free. I think one of the benefits of working with a reputable jeweler and not purchasing online is the customer service aspect. My jeweler is 2 blocks away from me at work, and he lets me walk in anytime to clean my ring, is always there when I have silly questions, etc.

Thanks ladies this has def helped. I've called two places and they both said they should be able to resize my ring.

@Heather my FH has an engagement ring too and it was actually his idea. He has a black tungsten ring and will replace it with a silver one once were married. I thought it was cute since a lot of men don't like to wear rings in thr first place

If your ring is just slightly bigger you can always have bishop's beads added, instead of having it completely resized. Or you can go up/down quarter sizes, it doesn't have to be a half size if you don't need it.

Also if it's gold they don't have to cut/solder it, they can just heat it, then stretch or shrink it to the desired size. So there shouldn't be any weak spot to snap. At least that's what our jeweler said. I ask a lot of questions at the jewelry store. Smiley smile

Here's what the beads look like. They're supposed to be really great if you have tiny knuckles, or if your fingers swell/shrink a lot.
