How much decor is really necessary???

Wedding is 71 days out...AHHHH!!!

Im starting to stress over decor for our reception. Our goal has always been to keep things simple and let the view speak for itself. I think ive been browsing wedding websites and pinterest too much and feel all this pressure to have these intricately set tables, and string lights, and eucalyptus everywhere. While I absolutely think all of this is beautiful is it necessary for the reception we are planning? We will be serving a buffet style taco bar. No formal sit down dinner. Still deciding on what other typical wedding traditions we will stick with. We are pretty laid back couple who are known in our crowd for hosting all the casual bbqs with our friends and family.

I am adding some inspo pics below. We already have simple florals for all the tables throughout the boat, will have a dessert table, selfie station, & open bar. Just not sure how much I need to try and dress up this boat when I feel like everyone will be checking out the scenery more than anything.

I agree with you that simple decor would be the best idea for your wedding. Like you said, the view speaks for itself! I love the idea of just a single mason jar/vase with flowers on each table. Depending on the time of day (if your reception lasts into the evening) and if the company would allow it, I think string/fairy lights along the railings of the boat would look super cute and romantic!

Having the flowers is enough. I don’t feel like there always needs to be more either.

Wow such a cool venue. If you will be on the boat at night time I would string some lights if they would let you. I love the flowers. Keep it simple.

Elaborate decor can be nice, but it is not remotely necessary. Especially at such a naturally beautiful venue.

There are white rope lights all over the railings for nighttime! I was able to find one image online!

In pro string lights everywhere. And I'm gonna rock some of those with our taco bar. But I didnt invite any koalas, so we wont be having eucalyptus anywhere. Side note: kinda wishing we did invite koalas.

Completely agree with you!!! The gorgeous pop of color from the flowers and the different shapes of glass would go perfectly with your unique taco bar boat wedding! You could probably find all different glass vases etc. at Goodwill and maybe even add some burlap or jute around the mouth of the jars, then add your new initial to that with a little thin string. You can get letters at any craft store or amazon. Candles in small jars are also an easy one that can dress anything up! Some extra string lighting would be pretty for the evening- maybe on the rails and inside on the ceiling like these.

My FH’s cousin who just got married owns a boating company, so they’re very much into the beach and water and boating and all. They did a very simple design with nautical themes and labeled their tables as “docks” and wrapped some rope around and it looked stunning. I don’t think you need to do much because you’re right; guests are going to be looking at the views and the unique idea over the decorations!

I love how the venue simply speaks for itself. Very beautiful. Simplicity is best in this situation.

The more aesthetic the venue, the less decor is needed. We are just having florals for our wedding and almost no other decor because our venue is a white painted minimalist barn and gorgeous on its own.

Decor, IMO, is more to "hide" bad aesthetics, crap lighting, etc. in a venue that just isn't well designed to begin with.

It's not required unless you want it. We're keeping our simple as well since the location is quite picturesque on it's own. Small centerpieces, guest book, card/gift area, favors for the guests, a few framed photos of departed family members, and a simple fabric/curtain light back drop for the ceremony (though I'm considering looking at artificial greenery to drape along the top of the backdrop), cake/cupcake stands and a simple cake topper. That's it for our decor.

I feel you, Pinterest is seriously the worst thing that happened to me as a bride... I didn't care about anything when I first got engaged and now I want all the things Smiley cry

I love simple decor! I wouldn't add anything else. I'm just doing a few decorations to hang from trees and mt centerpieces are only a mason jar with baby's breath.
