How much are your hotels?

How many hotel blocks do (or did) you have, and what are the price points? Right now I have one block at a higher end hotel for $179 per night (huge discount from their normal rate). Right now I have one block at a higher end hotel for $179 per night (huge discount from their normal rate). I just got a quote for a 3-star hotel at $139 per night. Is it worth adding it as a lower cost option?

For context, this is the weekend after a major holiday in a major city (many hotels I looked at are sold out already!), both are courtesy blocks (don't have to pay for unsold rooms), and I have around 25 guests coming in from out of town. Selfishly, we get a huge perk at the higher end hotel for booking more rooms - but I don't want to provide that as the only option if the cost is unreasonable for our guests. Thanks!

I think your rates are doable! I'm at an all inclusive resort. 237$ a night per person at a 4 star hotel. And some of my guests think this is expensive...

We did one hotel block. A brand new resort style hotel 2 blocks from the venue at $124 a night and $158 for a junior suite. There's generic hotels near by for a couple bucks cheaper ($118/n) but this hotel is much nicer.

We only blocked at 1 hotel since we don't have a lot of OOT guests. It's a Hyatt Regency and the rooms are $119 a night, which I think it reasonable in the Chicagoland area.

My hotel room was $160 per night based on a great discount. Otherwise it would normally be $300 per night.

We're doing just one hotel block for $180/night. We'll be arranging a free shuttle to and from the venue and downtown. We live in a touristy area and that was the lowest we could find that wasn't a dive. Of course anyone can opt to stay wherever and my brother's family and FH's cousin are paying more to stay right downtown. We also gave our house up to his brother's family and my parents are letting people stay with them for the people who can't afford a hotel.

This is great info everyone! I'm leaning towards adding the lower cost hotel as an additional option - if the weekend is as booked up as it looks now, I don't think anyone will find comparable rates anywhere else.

@Mrs.VtoBe hurray for anniversary twins! You must be getting so excited!

@ambrok that's unfortunate about being on the hook for unsold rooms, but awesome that you're reminding people of the military discounts! I'm lucky living in a big city that hotels are willing to take the gamble on filling rooms later.

@VC great deal! I think our higher end hotel is similar, but thought people might have sticker shock without knowing the typical rate.

We did one, only because we could only get one. Ours is $159/night on the holiday weekend and it's also the wooden boat show in Mystic this weekend. Rooms are going for $500 right now so I think it's a great price! We have a shuttle to and from the venue, an after event and brunch the next day. We also booked 70 rooms, so I needed a larger hotel.

We blocked at 1 hotel because that's the location of our wedding. It's $130 per night for city view and $150 per night for ocean view. It's on Fort Lauderdale Beach so we think that's a great deal.

No point asking other people for costs as they vary widely across the country. Also, prices vary due to season, events going on in the area, day of the week. The only thing to compare are hotels in your area.

FH is a manager at the beach resort we're getting married at. Usually the rooms are $334 a night plus resort fee. He is getting 10 rooms for his employee rate, which is $120/night without a resort fee.

We havent officially blocked yet but we are definitely going to do two room blocks in slightly different price ranges. Thankfully there are several different high and low end brand hotels in hour area so even if someone doesn't go with our room blocks they will be able to find something. Most of our extended family is out of state and we want to be considerate of traveling expenses for everyone by giving them a choice

Ours were $129 and $149. I think your prices sound reasonable!

I got quotes from some hotels near Chicago and the Marriott was $99 ($120 with shuttle service).

Add in the second hotel block for another price aternative. We have three courtesy hotel blocks (between 20-35 rooms at each hotel; about 120 of our 150 guests are OOT) in a within a mile of the venue in a popular neighborhood of a large city (DC). All three are boutique hotels, two are rated +4 star hotels at three different price points that were three 33% lower than the advertised price: $209/night, $169/night, and $139/night (prices include one king bed of double occupancy or two queen beds of double occupancy). We too will receive an upgrade if 90% of our hotel block rooms are booked but we'd rather give price of alternatives to our guests.

@Firstoneat I know, but since my guests are from all over, I'm just curious whether there's a "typical" price people expect to pay for a hotel when they attend a wedding.

I have two hotels in walking distance to each other blocked off. One is more expensive and the other is affordable. I think it's nice to give the option to your OOT guests!
