How much are your hotels?

lilam18, on June 28, 2017 at 7:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 43

How many hotel blocks do (or did) you have, and what are the price points?

Right now I have one block at a higher end hotel for $179 per night (huge discount from their normal rate). I just got a quote for a 3-star hotel at $139 per night. Is it worth adding it as a lower cost option?

For context, this is the weekend after a major holiday in a major city (many hotels I looked at are sold out already!), both are courtesy blocks (don't have to pay for unsold rooms), and I have around 25 guests coming in from out of town. Selfishly, we get a huge perk at the higher end hotel for booking more rooms - but I don't want to provide that as the only option if the cost is unreasonable for our guests. Thanks!

    That sounds reasonable to me!

That doesn't sound too bad to me! Something to consider though is the parking situation. How much is that going to cost your guests? For example, here in Denver valet parking downtown (there are NO free hotel parking lots anywhere downtown) can cost between $40 and $50 PER NIGHT. That cost adds up FAST.

So I looked outside the city and found a hotel closer to our venue that has free parking AND only costs $106 a night! Plus if 10 room nights are booked, we get a suite free the night of the wedding.

EDIT: I misread this whole thing lol. $150 per night for a Marriott. $200 for a higher end hotel on the beach.

I did two blocks: one at a really cool, unique hotel a couple of blocks from the venue and another at a nice but more generic hotel half a mile away. The awesome hotel was $229 and the standard one is $149.

I say go ahead with the second hotel. It's good to give people choices.

We are using a small boutique hotel for ceremony and reception as well as the majority of our guests to stay. Rooms vary between $229 a night for non-view rooms up to $299 a night for a view and $361 a night for a lakefront suite. It's on the higher side, but it's also in Lake Tahoe and includes free valet, shuttles to local casinos, private beach passes, and other amenities. If some guests prefer to stay somewhere cheaper they can stay at a casino property 2 miles down the road for $155 a night.

Our room block was $135 per night, which I thought was a great deal. I heard a rumor that some of FH's family thought that was too much. Honestly, I think it will depend on where your guests ate from. People from small towns usually complain about big city prices---they're just not used to it.

I think a second lower cost block is a great idea! I live in a rural area so didn't have the option of courtesy blocks, but ours is a 3 star at $119.

@LittleDemon we're planning to pay for a shuttle so people won't need to drive to and from the venue. The hotel is located in the downtown area of our city, so just about everything else is within walking distance or a short Uber/Lyft ride away.

@bobbileighba your hotel sounds amazing! A little pricey, but worth it for all the amenities.

    Thanks everyone!

Ours are similar. Our wedding is Labor Day weekend so we did blocks at 3 different hotels. 2 are priced at $129/night and the other "fancier" hotel is $179/night.

We're in Cleveland, so...cheap, cheap, city.

And really, we're in the suburbs, so even cheaper. Smiley smile

Wedding is 10/14. Reserved 10 rooms Friday night and 20 Saturday. It's a Doubletree, and it's $94 (plus tax, of course).

As a guest I appreciate hotel blocks, especially when it includes a free shuttle (common in our area), but I always shop around on my own as well. Giving your guests a choice is a good idea as everyone's budget is different.

Our room block was 175 a night. Our hotel was about 500 feet from the ocean. It was perfect. Those that stayed there loved it and thought it was totally worth the price!!!

We looked around a lot for rates at about $179 a night. Two of the hotels have two night minimums (weekend wedding). We had a lot of hotels quote us at between $250-350 with a two night minimum which seemed insane to us for people already flying in just for the wedding.

Well I get married next Friday another 7/7 lol and my rate for the Marriott. (Now called Delta) is $159 and that's the discounted rate because my venue is right next door.

$139 for a block at one hotel n $179 at another (no block as we'd be on the hook if 8 room aren't reserved). We listed both on our wedding website n reminded folks of their military discounts. I've also found deals via online travel sites compared to block room rates. ETA the $179 room block discounted rate would have been $119 but we wont risk the potential cost to us

We did one at the hotel we are getting married at and its $239 per night. I have been looking at other hotels to see if I can do another block for cheaper.
