How much alcohol do i need to buy?

SoonToBeKADC, on July 31, 2019 at 5:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 4

My venue doesn't provide alcohol or the bartender. We have everything situated but we are trying to determine how much alcohol we need to buy. I found a calculator online but it all seems like too much.

For 300 guests (according to the calculator), here's what we need:

7 kegs of beer

66 bottles (750 mL) of liquor

900 bottles (12 oz) of water

170 bottles (1 L) of soda

But since more than half of our guests are underage, I looked into 125 guests.

4 kegs of beer

33 bottles (750 mL) of liquor

450 bottles (12 oz) of water

85 bottles (1 L) of soda

Does this seem like a lot of things to buy or is this normal?

My venue provides beer, champagne and wine and we have to provide the alcohol and chaser. We are having 125 guest and we are purchasing 15 bottles of liquor (1.75L) per the venue recommendation.

That seems like a lot of beer. We’re having about the same number of drinkers and our bartender told us we might not even go through one keg. You also waste leftover beer in a keg - as opposed to bottles which you could keep or give away.

That is crazy amounts of alcohol!
You will need more soda and water than the 125 people quoted since all ages will be drinking it.

2 kegs max. I would recommend cans or bottles but if not, 2 kegs max.

    Hi there Smiley smile

Do you have to get kegs? As Jess mentioned, one a keg is opened, you end up wasting the beer left in the keg.

If you could find a store which would return unopened bottles and cans, they could be a more cost-effective option.

Have you decided where you are purchasing the alcohol from? Will they accept returns?
