How many times have you been engaged/married?

Imtheone4Him, on March 29, 2015 at 11:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 37

If you have been engaged more than once, how close to your first wedding was it called off?

Do you feel family and friends second guess this engagement if your remarrying or engaged again?

I was married before, but didn't get to have a wedding! He wouldn't let me. So, now that I've found a man who was an amazing friend to start off with, and treats me like a princess, and just wants me to be happy, my family is super supportive and helping every step of the way! =) this will be my second, and last marriage!!

It's the first (and hopefully only) for both of us.

First for me, second for FH. He was married once before and has two kids. I don't think anyone is "second guessing"...they're happy that we're happy.

Second marriage for me, first for NotFroofy. Given that the first marriage lasted nearly 20 years, and that I'd known NotFroofy nearly 9 years when I married her, I don't think anyone was second guessing anything.

Awww, @ImTheOne4Him, thank you. You are so sweet! And, I'm sorry, I edited my original post because I had a brief "brought up old memories" moment...LOL, so I shortened it to cut out the depressing parts! =)

If you count being "engaged" as a high schooler (you know, being soooo in love after two days that you think you're gonna end up together forever) this is my second engagement. But I don't count that lol

I was engaged once prior and it didn't end in marriage for a variety of reasons. We were together for almost 8 years - engaged for 4. We never planned a single thing.

I knew for a long time that he wasn't the one but was too lazy/comfortable/lost to break it off any sooner than I did. I picked a good time though - I met H a week later Smiley smile

This is the second marriage for us both. My first lasted 7 years, his 13. We've got a long history, going back close to 30 years. People that knew us back then are saying "it's about time", and both our families and children are beyond excited. ETA : I've been divorced for 13 years.

People need to stop saying "first and only marriage". No one gets married thinking that they'll get divorced down the road. Everyone thinks they've found the one and that nothing can come between them. Shit happens. Deal with it.

I've never been engaged or married before and don't plan to have this be the only one!

My poor cousin however just got engaged a few days ago for the 3rd time. The first time she was about half way through planning (had deposits down), the second time her fiancé called it off TEN DAYS before the wedding. It was so depressing. He was in a branch of the military that was very demanding, and a few weeks before his wedding he went on this work trip and all the guys there were telling him he was crazy for marrying and would never have time for his wife and such so he got cold feet and broke her heart. None of us could believe it because it happened twice to her. Now she just got engaged to the third guy a few days ago and we're all really hoping for the best. As her family I don't second guess this because all the previous ones were the guy's fault, so I know she can commit, she just got very unlucky. However if I were her, I'd probably just elope because I'd be afraid, but she deserves the wedding she's dreamed of!!

Second engagement; the first time I was engaged was over 10 years ago I was about 20 at the time and we were not in a place financially to get married so no plans were made and we were engaged for about 2 years.

First for me, second for him. Technically this is my second engagement, but I never planned anything for the first one...except buying votive holders. I can't remember why but I must have bought 75.

This is the first marriage for us both.

First engagement for him, third for me...

My first engagement was at 18 and lasted three months after living together, the next I was 22 and we had been dating and living together for three years, we were engaged for two and less then a year out from the wedding when I called it off.

Although FH proposed shortly after we started dating, no one is second guessing it. Both of our families are ecstatic! We had been best friends for eight years and although our realization of how we felt for each other came at a very scary time in my life (I was in a bad car accident), everything worked out perfectly. Both of our fathers and his mother have already asked why we are waiting so long to get married and they all want grandbabies!

This is my second marriage (second for FH as well) and my third engagement. After my first marriage, I was engaged for a short time, but it was never formal and we didn't plan anything. Didn't even have a ring so I guess I wouldn't have to count it, LOL.

I've actually gotten far less negativity this time than I did the first time I got married. I think people see that FH and I are a better fit. Due to some circumstances with the beginning of our relationship, I was very nervous about meeting his family... they were very excited to meet me and I think his parents started talking about us getting married before we did!
