How many tastings/meetings with caterers did you have?

GrayCatVintage, on May 5, 2014 at 6:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

We are visiting two different caterers near the end of the month for tastings to see if they will work for us. My mother thinks I need to come up with 2-3 additional companies to look into. Our original caterer backed out...long story there, but we are still on board for having BBQ and traditional sides served buffet style.

How many caterers did you have to visit with before you found the one you are going with? Did you bring your and FH's parents with you as well? I am adamant that my mother and at least my FFIL accompany us to tastings because me and FH can get a little overboard with spice/have a hard time finding a happy medium with seasonings.

We met with two catering companies before we decided.

The first one which we wound up picking was AMAZING! Super delicious. The second one was HORRIBLE! Food was really gross. So our choice was easy.

I took my FH and my mom. I would have brought my FMIL but she was away on vacation and wasnt able to attend.

You will know when you have found your catering company.

Best of luck in your search!

We are having ours at a historic home located in a park, and they provide no services whatsoever. Luckily, most of the caterers are really excited about the idea of a BBQ buffet because it is less work on their end, and it is cheaper for us.

We found about 5 o 6 places. FH wanted food that he could get full off of and didn't want food on a cracker so we decided to go with BBQ with all the fixins. That knock about 3 people off our list. We had an actual sit down with 2 places which were both good so then we made the decision based off price and value.

The 3rd place would only give us a price quote based on the food we thought we may like. They came is at $25-30 a person and were automatically knocked off the list.

I only had one. The venue I booked with also does food and gave us a great all included fee.

I went once to try the food. My mom, dad and sister came with me. My FH and future in laws were out of town otherwise I would have considered them.

None. My venue came with catering, and I figured it would be at least edible, and beyond that I didn't really care. Smiley sexy

Our venue is all inclusive but we got a choice of 5 caterers. We met today and the food is amazing! We picked them on spot

I am not sure what kind of people you and your fiance are, but if you like options and like to make decisions based on pros and cons of a million options, then I would perhaps book a couple more. If you are anything like me and like to make decisions NOW based on the information you have available, and get overwhelmed with too much information/too many options, stick with the two that you have booked.

So to answer your question, we had one catering tasting and that was the company we went with.

I get catering at work. I knew who I wanted to use. If you try two and you like one, then go for it. If you aren't sure about either then look for more. If you give me to many choices, it's to hard to decide. As for meetings with the caterer, we had a lot if you count calls on the the phone. We had a tent on family property. The caterer I used brought in the tent people, kitchen equipment, all the rentals, the nice bathroom trailers and generators. These coordinated with the florist, dj sand everyone else.

I actually don't even know if I get to do a tasting. We are getting married at a restaurant and we've had most of their food already. I definitely wouldn't turn down a tasting though Smiley winking

Our venue is providing the meal, but we do get one tasting to decide on our options. I think we pick 3 of 6 or 7 meal options they have.

We met with one caterer and did one tasting. We booked them on the spot after our tasting. It was delicious! We're also doing BBQ. =)

Our venue (country club) has an amazing chef on site, so we of course used her. We went to one tasting to decide what the actual entrées for our sit down meal would be. So good!!
