Tables for your buffet or tables for your guests to sit at?

For the buffet it depends on how much good you are having and what type of food you are having. I am using 3 8' tables.

Ask you caterer. Also ask them if they will need any additional tables for prep or anything.

I would leave that decision up to your caterer.

I agree that is something for the caterer to take care of. not for you to worry, unless you are catering your own reception, in which case good luck

It depends on how big the tables are? usually rounds of 8? I am using this awesome and cheap diy wedding app that was built by a real wedding planner, there is a whole section n seating charts in there you can plan it all out! Good luck!!

Caterer. You hire professionals for a reason. Let them deal with it.

My caterer is dropping off the food, so I am in the same boat as you, Dara G. I am thinking 8' tables for the buffet and then one for the dessert table.

@Meaghan, It's funny how some people don't think not every caterer supply servers and tables smh

-Get enough tables to have one tray of food for each dish

-another for utensils (plates and etc)

-if you don't have storage for the other food you will need to get tables for them

Honestly as a someone who has worked food service, do a test run. With your wedding this far out, I would suggest you calculate how many serving dishes you will use, and use something from your kitchen that is similar size. Then set them out on a table and count how many you can fit comfortably on the table.

You don't want people bumping elbows and crowded in and spilling all over each other, you also need room for staff to replenish the food. So ensure you are accounting for that when deciding on how many serving dishes per table.

I think even if your caterer is dropping off the food they should be able to recommend a number of tables. They likely do many events and are familiar with the size of their trays etc. I would call them and ask them what the recommend space for set up is. It is hard for any of us to give you an educated guess not knowing what dishes are being served and the size of the dishes. This is information that your caterer likely has.

^^this. We're brides and former brides, for food service checking professionals in that industry would be your best bet not to have a clusterfk on your hands

Don't make it too complicated. 200 people would need 25 tables. Make sure everyone coming has a place to sit. If you need pricing on your tables you can get them on our website: http://www.chairrentaldirect.com. We'd be happy to help out if we can.
