How many rings do you have?

SHINY OBJECTS, on January 24, 2017 at 10:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

Is anyone getting 2 bands/did you get 2? I really want an eternity ring, but for religious reasons for the ceremony I have to have a plain band w/o gems. I’ve thought about having FH give me the eternity band after the ceremony, but I feel like it’s kind of wasteful to get both right away. I’ve seen lots of people with 3 rings (including e-ring), and one of the jewelers I spoke with said that’s becoming more common, so I’m curious why other people are getting them. FWIW my e-ring was inherited, so currently no rings have been purchased in this process.

I believe the second band is traditionally an anniversary ring for the 'diamond' anniversary...Lots of people are doing it for the wedding now too though!

I have my e-ring and bought a wedding band that fits right into my e-ring. So I'll have two rings once married.

@Windows-not sure what a wrap is? Is that where it kind of looks like 2 rings (but really 1) that goes on either side of the e-ring? Sorry, I am not a jewelry person and really out of my element here!

My best friend has two wedding bands because she and her husband liked the way it looked with the e-ring. I don't think it's necessary, one wedding one band. But I do think it looks really nice if you can afford it.

I'm planning to have two bands. Because I like the symmetry with my ering.

I have two bands. I just thought it looked better with my e-ring and I got both at a really good price, so I couldn't pass it up! I think it's whatever your preference is on what you think looks best

Windows-ok, I see what you mean. That's so pretty! It really looks like it's all one ring (at least from this angle).

I'll be having to bands, just because my FH is obsessed with making my hand look shinier.

I'll have two rings once I'm married. I considered getting a band for both sides but I found a band that looked beautiful all on its own, I think it comes down to personal preference! I do like the idea of an anniversary band myself (:

I'm just curious, what religion requires a plain band? I've never heard of that.

I'm getting both right away. One is a plain band the other has diamonds but they are meant to stack with my ring. Let me throw it out there that both together total about $800

I have an engagement ring and a wedding band. I think two bands is unnecessary, but some people need symmetry. You can do a wrap, it's two small bands connected at the base so you set the engagement ring inside.

I have one band with my engagement ring. The halos on mine stick out in such a way, that it's hard to even see the one from certain angles. I've debated a second, but I don't think it will add much to it. My friend has two bands on her engagement ring because she thought it looked weird with one. Anymore, I think it's a matter of preference.

I have two bands. I loved the look of stackable bands so I have one that is hearts and one thin plain rose gold with diamonds.

@Flighty- Judaism. Plain, unbroken band. My rabbi won't even let us have it engraved, we'll have to do that after.

@Fall- haha!! I'm glad you're unscortched! Unfortunately my rabbi is pretty traditional and won't allow us to have anything else. I can't even wear any other rings, including ering!

@Texas- omg I'm a TX bride, too, and our dates are so close, good luck in the final stretch! And I love the idea of anniversary ring, but the problem is I'm super impatient. Smiley smile

    Eta: grammar

Oh my goodness, I was up, down, and all around when it came to a band. Here's my thought process:

We bought my engagement ring and I loooooooved it--we shopped together. I didn't want a band in the beginning, because I didn't really see the point of two rings. He has one, I have one, this one is one with the emotional attachment because we picked it out together, etc.

But I'm easily swayed I guess, and my BFF was also getting married and choosing her band. I started noticing other bands on people at work, in stores, and on the forums. It made me realize that seeing a ring makes me think engaged or possibly just "that's a fun ring" but seeing a ring with a band clicked on a lightbulb that said "married" to me.

So I did a 180 and wanted a band, but I love symmetry, so I tried on a bunch of ring guards (and my poor fiance at this point cannot understand why I changed my mind or why a band was important to me suddenly). I'm trying on enhancers, double-bands, guards, etc and I realized what I didn't like about them---they just make it look like you have a bigger ring. And to me, the point of a band is to clearly indicated MARRIED.

So I scrapped the enhancer, found a single band I loved, and that's what I have now, and I'm really happy with it. An anniversary band for me will be a right hand ring.

In the end, I think you have to do whatever you want, whatever you prefer. There really isn't a right or wrong, and you don't even need a ring at all to be married. I just thought hard about why I wanted a band and what it symbolized to me and then bought something that fit. And my husband probably still doesn't understand why I changed my mind completely lol.

ETA: You could just switch the plain band to your right hand and wear the diamond with your ering later.

Sorry, I rambled way too much. lol!
