How many ring bearers is too many?

LauraM, on April 26, 2016 at 7:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

I have a bit of a dilemma. My 8 year old daughter is obviously going to be our flower girl. But I also have a nephew (4 years) and 2 little brothers (7 years and 3 years). FH has 4 nephews (9, 7, 5, and 4 years). I love each and every one of these boys and really don't know how to choose a ring bearer, as there are no girls in our families other than my daughter. So I guess my question is... is it too weird to have all 7 of them escorting my daughter down the aisle and maybe just have the oldest hold the rings? Not sure how to go about it lol

And yes, both my little brothers are younger than my daughter. Don't get me started on that lol

Yes, that is too many little ones to try and wrangle down the aisle. If you can't pick, then I would advise none.

I think it's an absolutely adorable idea!!! They're special to you, and I don't think anyone will care that you have so many...and if they do, ignore them! It's YOUR day...you can do whatever the hell you want

I feel like 7 is definitely a lot! Logistically, I think that sounds like something that I wouldn't want to do, but to each their own. Organizing 7 children, keeping them clean and dressed up is a lot. I don't think that anyone will be offended that you chose one person instead of the other. The 9 year old may be a bit on the old side for RB by the time you get married. I would probably choose your 7 year old brother as he would be around the same age as your daughter.

Can you just leave all the nephews out? Have your daughter be flower girl, and younger brothers be the ring bearers. Seven kids down an aisle is a lot.

Definitely too many little ones! I would say do your two little brothers or don't do any at all.

I feel like that is a lot but your choice!

I'd say since the girl is coming from your side of the family maybe have FH pick 1 of his nephews?

Hmm, I do feel like that's a lot. I know you care about your nephews, but maybe you can include them in another way? Have them pass out programs or greet guests? If you had to draw a line, I think the natural line would be to include your daughter and brothers.

You can only have two ring-bearers, because there are only two rings. But you can have an infinite number of little page-boys, as many as you can handle. Nine, Eight and Seven are plenty old enough to help run herd on a three- or four-year-old each. Send them up the aisle in pairs: no-one expects male-female pairing for humans who are too young to even pronounce "puberty" yet (in fact, in this day and age no-one should be expecting male-female pairings even in married couples.) It won't look odd, it will be sweet.

I have never met a little boy, who was hoping to be a ring bearer. I would just have my daughter, if I were you.

I have 5 nephews and 1 niece! So I made my niece the flower girl and my youngest nephew the ring bearer! That way I get 1 kid from each of my siblings lol...

It's your day! You can do what you want! Just think of trying to get that man little ones down the aisle in one piece, clean, no running back up the aisle, no funny business, etc.

I have similar numbers, so we we thinking of having two ring bearers (one per ring) and have the rest carrying signs of some sort. I've seen it on Pinterest and it's the only way we have thought of so far to make sure everyone is included.

That's a lot of really young kids. The phrase "herding cats" comes to mind.

I know it's a lot of kids, but they're all very well behaved. I guess I still have a while to decide though, I thought it might be cute to see my daughter with 7 escorts lol. I haven't been to many weddings, this is all new to me. I love WW for this reason!

Remember with kids so much can go wrong. One or two is hard to control with that many your wrangling sheep. If that's how you choose good luck.

They may be well behaved in normal situations, but asking them to be the center of attention, in clothes they normally don't wear, in front of a ton of strangers will make the best behaved kids in the world nervous, excited and scared. Please have a plan B and don't be upset if they melt down the day of.

We are having 4 flower girls and 2 ring bearers. I feel like 7 may be a little much but your wedding your decision.
