How many readings?

Chelsea , on February 10, 2019 at 6:44 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

We're not particularly religious, and will be having a fairly simple/straightforward ceremony with traditional vows. My sister's ceremony was simple too, but it felt super rushed and awkward (it was like 5 minutes). We want to add readings to personalize it and add some length, but aren't sure how many would be too many. There are 3-4 that we like, none of which are very long (like they'll take about a minute each). Is that too much? I think I want the ceremony to last 15-20 minutes but as it is now, it'd be more like 10 or less.

We’re going with 1 bible verse and one that’s a book quote as “readings” according to program but Ceremony is peppered with quotes from books because I love books

I’m a wedding photographer so I’ve seen my share of ceremonies. Most couples who include readings do 1-2. The only time I see more than that is at catholic mass ceremonies where there are multiple scripture readings in addition. If you really love them all, perhaps have the same person do 2 of them, so it’s not so much up-and-down and flows better.

I am confused. Won’t the book and the Bible be done during the ceremony?

I meant that I’m not 100% sure what makes something a reading technically

i have a verse and a quote being read before we get to “vows part” of Ceremony

if anything that is wuoted from elsewhere is a reading i probably have 10 or 20 or something

if its just whatever you “deem” a reading then I am less sure exactly what I have...

in my program have 2 readings mentioned during Ceremony but include all quotes after that portion of program because I don’t think anyone will realize they are there if I don’t point them out?

i don’t know is the short answer I guess ... but here is my program fldraft im working on if you can clarify what constitutes as readings

    How many readings? 1

    How many readings? 2

    How many readings? 3

    How many readings? 4

    How many readings? 5

    How many readings? 6

    How many readings? 7

    How many readings? 8

We ceremony was traditional and religious ( we got married in a church) and we only had one reading. It lasted roughly 25/30 minutes.

You can add a unity ceremony to make it a little longer. We are having a non religious ceremony and I am thinking on two readings about marriage/love and one reading about loved ones who have passed. I will probably have guests chosen to do the readings, not that this is the reason but them getting to the altar etc adds a little time.
