How many pictures should i expect?

Stacey, on January 29, 2018 at 4:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

I recently just did an engagement session with the photographer we booked for our wedding as well. We were out taking pictures for 4 hours, and only received 20 pictures. They were unbelievably beautiful and such big quality, but we were very disappointed in the quantity. How many is typical for an engagement shoot?

Should I be concerned for my wedding considered the low amount we received for the engagement session? Thanks!

I agree thats not enough. We were only shooting for an hour and a half and have over 800 pics. What was in your contract?

The contract was bare minimum... said nothing about the amount we should expect

Our engagement picture shoot was a little less than 2 hours, and we still had over 100 edited pictures to choose from. 20 does not seem like near enough, especially if you were here for 4 hours.

We took pictures for 2 hours, our photographer took over 1000 pictures but she said we would receive around 50 final and edited images. 20 seems low.

Reach out and ask the photographer. It may be a sneak peek with more to come. You said the shoot was recent, so is it possible that some are still being edited? If all you get is 20 now, that will be disappointing but not the end of the world. At the very least, clarify what you'll expect from the wedding. I'm learning so much about questions that I'll need to ask when I start interviewing.

Our shoot was about 3 hours and we got over 100 edited pictures. 20 seems really low to me, but if your contract didn't say anything other than a minimum, I'm not sure if there's much you can do.

4 hours is a long time to take pictures first off so I think you are awesome for being so dedicated! Pictures take a really long time to edit especially if they are amazing! Just ask how many to expect for your wedding. However it may take her a little while to edit them all. Maybe she have you some to hold you over while she does the rest of them. Have you talked to her since?

Our engagement shoot was about 1.5hrs and received 110 edited high def photos. I can't believe with a 4hr shoot you would get only 20. I would read what's in your photographers contract. In mine it says at least 50 images for the engagement shoot. Some photographers do first glances and only send a few photos while they are continuing to edit the rest. Are you sure that is all you get? Just voice your concerns with your photographer.

Our engagement photo shoot was about 2 hours and we received about 90 pictures. 20 is definitely low. Are you able to ask the photographer why just 20 and if they have more? Also, ask the photographer how many to expect from the wedding. From our wedding with 1 photographer we got over 600 pictures. Hope this helps.

This is something that should definitely be in your contract for the wedding. It might be too late to do anything about the engagement shoot, except ask if there are more. For the wedding, photographers usually provide a range of images you can expect, like 400-600, 800-1000, etc. If it's not in a contract you've already signed, I would definitely ask the photographer what you can expect. Possibly your contract can be amended; if not, try asking the question in email (or some other print form) and then keep a copy of the response. Daughter's photographer contract is for 12 hours and she is guaranteed a minimum of 800 fully edited images. She'll receive a "sneak peak" within 48 hours of 12-20 pics, and then the full set within 12 weeks.

We also had a similar problem. We took pictures for like 3 and a half hours and only ended up getting 35 pictures. We asked for more and only received 8 more that were of terrible quality. I was so worried that she was going to miss important shots or even have the important shots turn out badly, and I really didn't want to have to list out all of the photos we wanted. Needless to say, we have a new photographer for our wedding now. My advice is, if you are worried about the photos you are getting, trust your gut.

20 does not seem like enough. Our engagement session was about 2 hours and we got about 170 pictures. You should call your photographer and see if they have any more.

We shot for one hour, our photographer said we would get 40, we got 90. I think that is a low number, did you check your contract to see if they stipulate a certain amount?

My engagement session was free with my wedding contract, and from the 75-minute session (was 90 minutes but I cut it short because I was cold) we had almost 200 fully edited images. I'd ask them if this was your "sneak peek" or if this is all you're getting. We probably got the first 15 images that were ready after editing to hold us over until the collection was ready.

Is this the same photographer as your wedding photographer? I would ask them to redo the contract or find someone else. Our engagement session was about 2 hours long and we received 120 fully edited photos.

I'd definitely chat with your photographer and get a written agreement on picture quantity for the wedding!

Like others have said - these 20 pictures could just be a teaser, or these could be the 20 best images, or 20 edited images and the rest of the unedited ones are coming, you'll definitely need to ask!

I got a ton of engagement pictures back from our shoot, but we definitely only ended up using or framing 5-6 of them!
