How Many Hours?

Cassie, on September 19, 2017 at 7:12 PM Posted in Planning 1 7

After attending a wedding this weekend, I am starting to rethink how much time we have for our reception...

As of right now, our wedding is from 11-4pm.

Ceremony at 11am, about 15 minutes or so.

Cocktail 11:15-12:15/12:30pm

Reception 12:15/12:30pm-4pm

Is 3 1/2ish hours enough for a good reception? It's daytime but we will have dancing. The wedding I went to this weekend had a 5 hour reception, which originally I thought was too long but it seemed like a good amount of time, which is making me rethink our timeline lol.

We are inviting 118 guests. Each additional hour is $500 so I definitely don't want to add more time if 3 1/2 hours is sufficient.

Thank you!

My ceremony is 4-4:30. Then cocktail hour 6-7. The wedding ends at 11 and we're doing an extended hour at the bar they have on site. I think 3.5/4 hours is ok, your activities in between will just be closer. If you wanted to extend it id say just one more hour, $500 is a good chunk of change.

My evening reception is only 4 hours (7-11). Same reasoning, plus my venue closes down at midnight as in we have to be cleaned out and gone by then. As long as it's well hosted, it shouldn't be a problem! You may consider doing an after party somewhere else though.

I would do the extra hour.

I think it should be fine. Is it all at the same place, or are you having the ceremony at one site and moving to another? My cousin had his ceremony start at 7, and they were done by 10:30. It seemed very rushed, they cut their cake while people were still in line to get food! But they also had them at two different locations so that cut into the time a bit.

My ceremony is 4pm-4:30pm (30 mins)

Cocktail hour is 4:30pm-5:30pm (1 hour)

    Reception is 5:30pm - 10pm (4.5 hours)

According to the timeline that my wedding coordinator created...that's plenty of time to do everything we wanted and get dancing in!

True, the cocktail hour is an estimate, we could totally take less time taking pictures. It is all at one spot, the ceremony and the reception.

We are definitely going to be doing something after the wedding, I have no idea what yet though lol!

I think that's a good timeline for a daytime wedding. I wouldn't do the extra hour.
