How many hours did you book photographer & videographer

Monica, on March 24, 2021 at 11:39 AM Posted in Planning 1 36
My budget is $1000 for each. Ive been quoted all kinds of $$ from 3,000 for 4 hours to $800.

Im leaning towards this photographer who quoted $1000. We get 2 photographers for 4 hours and they include an extra 2 hours in the package for candid shots & whatever other poses we want. So we actually get 6hours.
My 4 hours does not cover the whole wedding. It only gets us 1hour before the ceremony, ceremony, family pics immediately after, grand entrance, first dance, speeches, toast, dinner & ends at cake cutting. I tried to plan out the reception to fit almost everything at the beginning of the reception because I cant afford anyone to stay all day.
So 6 hours would be great. Im not fully set on the photographer I mentioned above because Im still waiting for a few other responses. I have seen some top of the line samples, his samples arent as top of the line but I have to be reasonable with the quality I get for the price. His work is still good and I think I would be happy with it. What has me most sold is his work is good, and 2photographers and the 6 hours.
So how long should I book a videographer for?

Wow, this sounds like an extremely generous deal for photography! If it were me, I would probably try to have the videographer there for as much time as you can afford. I would want coverage from us getting ready, ceremony, reception, all the way to send off. But it all depends on what you can budget for. Does the videographer have packages you can chose from?

I'm paying 2800 for 2 photographers for 8 hours. They'll arrive at 2p, get the 'getting ready' shots, first look and family photos (we're skipping a bridal party), then ceremony is at 5p and reception starts at 6ish so they'll be there until 10p.

Think of the photos you'll want to actually print and hang/look back at and prioritize those. You don't have to do the big family ones, as those take a lot of time to arrange and honestly basically no one prints and frames those.

A videographer should probably be there about 30 minutes before your ceremony and maybe through your first dance and parent dances. It really depends on what type of video you want.

Someone else could record speeches on a phone and call it a day, I don't think you'd have to have that as part of a wedding video, but that's up to you.

$1k for 6 hours is a great deal, but def. compare prices once you get other responses back!

Like Morgan said, I would try and have the videographer there for as long as you can budget for. This also depends what your budget is for them, and what all you specifically want videoed. Most videographers will have packages to choose from that will show you exactly what you get with them! Find ones that you like, and compare those prices as well like the photographers!

Our photographer package was $2599. We get here for 8 hours, and she includes a second shooter as well as other perks! Our videographer package was only $500 because he had a 50% end of the year discount on everything. He'll be there for around the same time as our photographer, and also includes a second shooter with perks.

$500 for videographer! That definitely was a sale! I want full video of ceremony and highlight video, which is what I said when I asked for quotes. But now im confused what is the norm what kind of footage does the videographer usually give the client. Do they give u separate videos of events throughout the day? Like if i also want video of our grand entrance + first dance or the father/daughter dance etc, do they give that to you separately?

Im starting to rethink what I want. But the family photos is definitely a must for our families (immediate family only) our immediate families arent huge so thats good.

For the money dance and bouquet tosses I was going to have someone record on their phone & call it a day like you said.

The first videographer gave me a quote of 1,000 for 5 hours. 1 videographer. But i need to ask follow up questions on what all his package will include. I said i wanted full ceremony + highlight. But will I also get separate videos of grand entrance & first dance and parent dances, etc? Or do I have to specifically tell them that & maybe that might be an extra charge?

Right?! Haha, that's the only reason we got one because we told ourselves we wouldn't spend over $1k for one.

I think it just depends on the vendor and what they offer in their packages! I think the most expensive one I saw in my area was like $3k for what we wanted lol. Most of them will create a short video of all clips put together, kinda like a short film! Again, the things covered and how long the film is depends on your package and the videographer! Some give you all raw footage from the day along with the short video, others only include raw footage with a higher package. Your videographer will get together with you and you'll talk about your timeline and they'll also ask you what you prioritize for filming!

I will say this, I went to one girl that had a shooting style I loved, and told her we just wanted the ceremony and first dance filmed. She said she would charge us hourly instead of a package since that's all we wanted, and it was still $800/hr lol. Then we saw the one we booked and that it was cheaper. We get a short film, second shooter, mic for when we say our vows. He'll video our first look and us reading our letters to one another. He'll also get coverage of cocktail hour and some of the reception!

Just do your research! Find ones you like, inquire about pricing and quotes, then compare!

My best advise is to create a list of the family pictures you want to make sure you don't miss anybody.

A trend I see a lot of in weddings is the couple's respective sides taking photos with just their person (bride's side w/ only bride) and it's weird to me. I'll allow my parents to take photos with just me, but they're the only ones. Everyone else will have to include my FH since he's part of our family now.

So to clarify, I made a list of family who would take photos with just me, who would take photos with just FH, and then a list with who would take photos with both of us, and I broke it down to family sections and listed each person by name so it's easier for the photographer to shout out who they need.

If you're saving family photos for after the wedding have your officiant make an announcement that parents, grandparents, siblings, aunt/uncles/cousins need to remain nearby for photos. I promise it will help cutdown on the amount of time wasted trying to find people.

I recently went through this debate of "how many hours for videography" as well! I ended up booking my videographer for 8 hours. I would make a list of all things you want captured in the video, and then put together a rough timeline of the day's events. From the very first thing you want captured to the last, how many hours is that? I would add 1-2 extra hours just so things aren't rushed/potentially missed, and book the videographer for at least that many hours.

Also, here is a link to the discussion I added a while back asking about videography hours. Many people gave great advice on how to figure out number of hours in that thread, so it may be worth reading through just to see if any of the comments help you out too. https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/another-videography-question-how-many-hours/1ccf88d9d6bdc0be.html

That is a really good idea to have ready for the photographer. My list is my parents, my step mom. my sister + her husband. DHs parents, his 2 siblings. Im hoping we can get our pictures done somewhat quickly. Im also planning on doing pics before the ceremony (me with my mom, sister, stepmom, DHs mom. And me with my bridesmaids) and the same of him with his dad, brother and his groomsmen. Im hoping taking those pictures prior to the ceremony will help us so that after the ceremony its group pictures. Like first group NEXT. 2nd group NEXT lol.

Thanks I will check it out. I literally created the reception timeline to capture everything as much as possible at the beginning of the reception. But im thinking maybe 5 hours would be ideal instead of 4.

We will have our photographer for 6 hours and our videographer for 9. I know a lot of people do the opposite, but we have really prioritized videography over photography.

Thanks. So far I have a potential that quoted $1000 for 5hours. Comes with 60min documentary of wedding and 3-4 min highlight video.

If you've created your timeline to work for the photographer, I imagine the videographer could be similar (unless you really, really want a lot of video footage of dancing). If there isn't anything else you want the videographer to film, it seems like 6-7 hours will be fine--they'll get whatever the photographer is!

We booked our photographer for 10 hours. Our package cost $5000 and included a second shooter, a 1-hour engagement shoot, and a 30-page wedding album. We definitely felt that this was enough time. We chose not to have a videographer
