How many hotels should i book for room blocks?

Michelle, on January 22, 2023 at 9:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

We plan on inviting 190 guests to our wedding. I'm guessing about 150 will end up coming, since there is a decent amount of people we're inviting who are out of state. So far we have room blocks at two different hotels. One hotel is a bit expensive ($300/night), so I'm not sure how many people will really want to pay that much. The one benefit is that it is only 5 minutes from the venue. The second hotel we have a room block at is $189/night and about 15 minutes from the venue. Should we do a third hotel room block, or would that be overkill? I found a third hotel that is slightly cheaper and a few minutes from the second hotel and is $165/night for King room and $185 for Double Queen room. I also plan on hiring a shuttle service company that will pick guests up at the recommended hotels, so I'm a little worried it might eat up a lot of time for the shuttle to stop and wait at all 3 hotels for guests versus only having to stop at 2 hotels.

What do you guys think?

To be honest, I would just do the 1 room block for the $189 a night hotel and call it a day. If people want fancier or cheaper accommodations, they can opt to book at other hotels on their own accord.

I totally agree with this! As a guest, I almost always find a cheaper rate whether it be through AAA or the hotel's best rate.

We just did a single block at the hotel that was right at our reception venue. Our shuttle picked up from there to take guests to the ceremony and took guests back to the hotel after the ceremony. That way, we didn't have to worry about arranging and paying for transportation after the reception, nobody would need to worry about paying for an Uber, having a DD, etc. since they could just walk back whenever they wanted, we didn't have to coordinate around people leaving at different times, and we at least gave an option to our out-of-town guests so they wouldn't need to transport themselves in an unfamiliar city. I included a link on our website to hotels nearby, but had a note that the shuttle would only be at the hotel we had a block at, so if guests wanted to use the shuttle they should either book through the blocked hotel or find a hotel nearby.

Just add more rooms to the $189. 300 is a bit much for people traveling for your wedding as they already have other traveling expenses.
