How many hair/makeup trials?

Julia Beth, on May 16, 2014 at 8:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I had my hair and makeup trials last night. The hair went GREAT, as I thought it would -- my longtime hairstylist/friend is doing my hair and I knew she would do a fantastic job.

Unfortunately the makeup was not so good. The place charge $150 (!!!!!!) just for a trial and I didn't even like it. I am fair and I think the girl used too dark makeup on my skin, making my cheeks look blotchy and even a little dirty. She did a great job on my eyes, but I just can't get past the blotchy face look. I want to be flawless on my wedding day!

So now I have to schedule another makeup trial somewhere else. If this one doens't work out, I'll be doing my own makeup. At least I know I'll like it.

How many trials did you have before you found someone you liked?

I completely understand. I had 1 hair trial and loved it, 1 make-up trial and didn't like it at all (and it cost me $90). I had a second trial done with someone else and it was much better. She's more expensive overall, but the trial was cheaper so it works out. I was in the same boat as you, if I hated the 2nd trial I was just going to do it myself. I didn't want to keep forking out money AND my venue is 4 hours away.

@Jae, that's exactly how I feel. I don't want to shell out over $300 JUST in makeup trials, when I know I do a pretty darn good job with makeup myself. I'm no pro (which is why I want to pay for pro, obviously), but I get lots of compliments on my makeup and my friends always ask me to do theirs for dates/special occasions.

It's just a shame, I've had my makeup done on numerous occasions and have always walked away feeling gorgeous! This is the one time where I was really not thrilled.

Yeah this was my first time having professional make-up done, so I had no idea what to ask for. The second go round I had a better idea of what I liked and didn't like so it went MUCH better! AND she actually listened to me lol

I had two trials with different artists. The first one was terrible. My "blush" was orange looking and used hot pink eye shadow. Bad. Just bad. The second one was awesome!! Luckily the first one was only $20 and the other was free. Try finding an artist that doesn't charge for a trial.

I've had two makeup trials but luckily my sister is my MUA. Second one was way better. Had two hair trials, second one was a winner.

I had two make-up trials, too. The first person did an ok job but reeked of cigs. I knew my mom and the wedding party would have been disgusted, with someone so up in your face. And, I didn't really look like myself. I wear a decent amount of make-up daily but she had done something...my mom didn't recognize me in a pic!

So I decided to suck it up and pay for another one and the girl is AWESOME. The make-up was great--and we had a great time. Plus...no cig smell! I was hesitant to spend the money, but I am SO glad I did!

Haven't done the the hair trial yet...but it's my normal hairstylist doing it and I have no problem telling him exactly what I want, so I am sure it will be fine, ha!
