How Many Guests per Table?

MrsD, on February 11, 2019 at 3:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 32

So I'm getting mixed answers on Google.

How many people will fit at a 60" round table? And a 96"x33" banquet table?

Right now, I have 10 at a round table & 8 per banquet table (not using the ends of the tables). Is that okay? Will people be cramped? What has been your experience?

My venue tables are 60" round tables. The owner of the venue told me they can fit 10, but only comfortably fit 8.

That's what I thought, I figured 10 would be too many. UGH! Okay, I'm glad you told me that! I'm thinking 8 or 9 (depending on the friend group) but that's it.

We had 8 at ours. We had a mix of long tables and round tables. Here’s 8 at a round table and any more I think it would’ve been tight.

I'm so glad I asked! We are doing the same, a mix of banquet & round tables.

I saw my Venue set up for ten on 60” rounds and it was too tight for my liking by far... I think I have a picture of a 9 if you want me to look for it

im doing 6-8 per table depending on rsvp and I’m ok with a couple 9 is absolutely necessary but prefer 8 as max probably

i vote 3-per side on rectangle not 4 or 5 they say can fit

I think I'll do 8 unless a group calls for 9 in a unique case! You think only 3 per side on an 8 foot table?

    It’s definitely a personal opinion

if i went 4 I would do seating chart and put skinny people there

i feel like they need more elbow room to get up and down from table without having to ask neighbor to move chair over just to let them out

Good to know! I'll make sure to mock a table to pick the right number.

My plan for rectangular tables was to not let them put them in to end and do three per side and one on each end if they were end and just 3 to 4 per side depending on the actual guest

Sorry if it’s rude but I’m thinking either three fat people are four skinny people

If you look at four people side by side at it or if you go sit at it and yourself with 3 others you’ll see that if you’re one of the larger people and you want to get out of the chair you essentially have to look at your neighbor and say “hey can you move over” and they have to slide down just let you out

I had 4 per side on my 8 foot tables and they fit with plenty of space.

Great! Yeah I'm thinking I'll need 4 per side just to fit everyone in the room but I think 4 should be fine.

We put 8 at each table that size. I didn't want people to be uncomfortable.

We were told for a buffet, max of 10, but 8-9 is more comfortable. For plated, max of 8 because servers need room.

That makes sense! Ours is a buffet with a plated salad, but I'd like more comfortable so we will plan on 8.

My BM is the head of banquets at a very large sports complex and she said 6-8 at 60" rounds, and 4 on each side for your 8' table. You could add people to the end of those if you want.

She said general rule is 2' per person (hence 8'/2' = 4 people)

Great! I think I'm going with 8 at the 60" rounds, and 4 per side on the 8 foot table. They will be connected in groups of 3-6 for the banquet tables, so we won't be using the ends. Thank you so much!

We had 60” rounds and anywhere from
7-10 per table. I tried to keep them under 10, but had a couple instances where it just made he most sense (like, a group of 10 that all knew eachother and no one else) — I figured they’d be happier cramped than split up. It worked out fine. I did consider the specific guests first too, crowding the tables that were full of small young friends and cousins who’d be on the dance floor most of the night instead of the big tall uncles or the older generation that I was not expecting to dance. Ultimately I’d say 8 is ideal, 9 is fine, and 10 works in a pinch if you consider the people at the table . (We were also advised to consider the meal— if it was a lot of eat wth your hands type stuff, they suggested to stay under 10 since elbows would be flailing!)

    That will be beautiful!

We are doing the same but I'm still adding people to the end end. Here's our diagram (ignore the blue and yellow highlight) if it helps you at all:

I'm hoping we won't have that since we are mixing in 8 foot banquet tables grouped in 2-6 tables. So the larger groups can sit together! I agree, I will keep specific guests under consideration.

What program did you use? I'm used allseated. Our room is more of a rectangle, with our dance floor on the most west side with the DJ booth, then seats on the other side.
