How many forks/knives?

I would do 1.5 forks pp for each course, so about 225. For knives I think you'd be safe doing 1 pp for just apps and dinner, so 100. I don't think most will use one for apps and that would allow extras for dinner.

Depending on what your apps are, you might be able to decrease that number a bit. If you just have finger foods, I probably wouldn't even set out forks and knives. Are you renting your silverware? If so, definitely ask your rental company what they recommend - they should have a pretty good idea.

Are your apps completely handheld? I have never seen apps that weren't "finger food". Are you pre-setting the tables? I would presume you need one fork and knife at each setting. Are you having salad? Then a salad fork and dinner fork and knife. Cupcakes really are eaten with hands. 100 forks (if you have a salad) and 50 knifes with say 15 extra forks and and 15 extra knives in case people drop their silverware on the ground.

Our caterer takes care of this but I looked at her quote and they provide 1 fork/knife/spoon for dinner, a separate salad fork, and put forks out for dessert if people want to use them (we are having cupcakes and things that may not need forks). None of our appetizers require forks so they will just be served on small skewers.

I haven’t decided on appetizers yet. I have requested finger foods. I ordered 100 dinner forks, 100 salad/dessert forks, 100 dinner knives and 60 steak knives (for briscuit, chicken and shrimp). I’m hoping it’ll be enough!
