How many dresses did you try before you found THE ONE?

I've been dress shopping this past week, and I've tried on 50+ dresses to no avail. The few I have liked, there's always been just ONE THING wrong. (My brother said one reminded him of a lace tablecloth. That was an immediate no-go. Hah. Sigh.) I'm just starting to wonder if my dress is even out...

(My brother said one reminded him of a lace tablecloth. That was an immediate no-go. Hah. Sigh.) I'm just starting to wonder if my dress is even out there. Did anyone else have a similar experience? Did you eventually find the dress or did you have something made? I feel like I'm running on fumes here. Side note: I know I have plenty of time, but I'm going back to school to finish my degree in the fall, so I'm trying to get as much done before school takes over my life.

Decide what feel you're going for the day of, and don't get set on any specific styles. I knew I wanted my dress to be romantic and Bohemian, but let the stylists bring me whatever they thought might fit the bill. I felt the best in a style I thought I'd feel really uncomfortable in. (Never been one for form-fitting styles) don't give up, OP! Your dress is out there somewhere.

I tried on about 17 dresses at 3 different places. I always thought I wanted a line or ball gown.

But I ended up with a mermaid fit.

I also found a nice place that listened to me and found a dress that I actually liked.

It helped for me to not listen to what others thought.

I think I tried on 5. That was only because they had to order the dress I wanted in from a loaner program and didn't have it in time for my initial appointment. Then again I knew what dress I wanted before I even got engaged and had been obsessing over it for months haha.

I am far from a girly girl. I dreaded dress shopping..

The 1st dress I tried on, I was like.. "I'm not into this "

The 2nd, I thought.. alright, we're playing dress up now..

The 3rd.. I cried in front of my best friend. I thought, no need to look any further. I don't cry easily, so this is it.

I went to 4 stores over the course of 3 days and ended up buying a beautiful dress because my mother loved it, and it was comfortable. In the end I love it, but not everyone has a "moment."

I tried on 10 and the one was the 10th one I tried one. But I had to justify going somewhere else. So I think I tried on about 20 but went back and bought the one I loved

For my first wedding, over 50. This time maybe 30. Find a good consultant in a shop that carries a variety of designers. When you have the dress on, tell your consultant what you like and don't like. That's how I found my dress. I had in one that was a lace bodice, but the bottom was just plain. I said I just wish the lace went all the way down. She left the room, came back with a similar dress that is all lace & could be ordered with the corset back I wanted.

A LOT! I don't know a number I just know it was quite a few. I was starting to feel just like you. I didn't think I would find my dress and gave up shopping for about a week. Then I decided I was going to go by myself.

I hadn't went with more than 3 people at a time, and no one was pushy, I just felt like I needed to listen to me. So, I called the bridal store and explained my not-so-normal appt. that I needed and they were great. I told them I wanted to come walk around, by myself, and look through all of the dresses. I told the consultant when I found one I liked and she put them at a fitting room for me. Sure enough one I kind of liked on the rack gave me my "I'm really a bride" moment.

Now, I strongly recommend doing this in the middle of the week so they aren't super busy and you aren't rushed. Try on anything you like even one part of. I would almost bet you'll find your dress. Good luck!!

I went to 7 shops and tried on at least 8 dresses at each shop. Easily over 50 dresses

35 or so. I couldn't believe it was that many! Didn't seem like it, I guess I was having too much fun!

I tried on 12 dresses to get the style that looked best on me then ordered my perfect dress on Amazon for $88. I couldn't be happier in my decision to go about it that way.

Is it possible for the dresses you like to customize the one thing you didn't like?

@Amy With some I would bet, but my favorite dress I've tried, the lace pattern on it was too contemporary for the vision I have of my wedding, and that's something a seamstress can't change.
