How many Donuts?

Futuremrsn, on August 27, 2020 at 6:54 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 22
Hi Ladies! I’m not a cake person so we are having a donut display at our wedding, along with bowls of wrapped candy for the kids. If I were to have about 70-75 guests attend my wedding, how many donuts should I order? I was thinking somewhere around 9 dozen, to have 108 donuts? I don’t know how many people will eat donuts, and I don’t want to have too many left over! How many would you order for a guest count of this number? Thanks! How many Donuts? 1

I feel like people would eat one if they are full size donuts. 9 dozen would be 1.5 donuts per person (obviously people won’t eat half a donut but it’s basically saying half of your guest will eat 2) that leaves the risk of having about 2 dozen left over, which really isn’t a bad thing. You can either have guest take some home or have them for breakfast the next day!

I think that 9 dozen will be enough. And it seems like you are having kids at the wedding so I'm sure they wouldn't be opposed to eating any of the leftovers lol

Some people may only eat half, others will eat more. I’d say 9 doze sounds appropriate.

We did 12 dozen for our wedding and had about 65 people come - there were leftovers, but we wanted to make sure we had enough for people to try a couple kinds (we had 6 flavors). We also did pies though, so we may not have had as many leftover if we hadn't.

Just as with cake, theres no way to guess who will eat a donut or not. So, left overs are usually inevitable. If you don’t want leftovers, I’d do 7-8 dozen because I feel like guests will only take one each like with a slice of cake. Having “seconds” of dessert isn’t totally necessary to ensure. But since kids will be attending, you probably won’t have any left anyway since they’ll probably grab a donut too.

Also will these just be openly displayed for all guests to walk up and grab? Like a donut wall?

Just like cupcakes the rule is 1.5 donuts per person. So you're really not to far off in your numbers. about 9.5 dozen.

I would say about 1.5 servings per person, so 9-10 dozen. I would also caution against having donuts out on display for people to touch, breathe, cough, and sneeze on in the middle of a pandemic.

Yeah I think I’m leaning more towards 10 dozen, but again it depends on my final guest count due next week!

There’s going to be plenty of candy too for the kids since it’s October! Hopefully they eat everything and I don’t have to take anything home haha

I’m going to speak with my caterer on how to handle the situation best, but I figured they would be set up and kept covered until that time, and then I’d have prongs for people. Perhaps even provide masks when people are going to and from tables with food.

Yes for sure! We are looking at somewhere between 6-9 dozen cupcakes. But we’ll be adding extra because we’ll be doing a minimum of 2 flavors

Yes, your caterer will know best how they’re handling buffet style displays at events in your area. But given the pandemic, I’d personally have the donuts individually served on plates by catering staff. That seems most hygienic and also gives you a better grasp on the amount to order. You can add a cute topper like the pic so that it’s not a lone donut on a plate. Or even have them individually boxed. How many Donuts? 2

Any extra can be donated to a place of work, retirement home, or even a kindergarten.

I did donuts as favors. I invited 125 people and ordered 11 dozen, so 132 donuts. I ended up leaving with 9! But the rest of the donuts were gone!

Err on the side of 2 per person. Some will only take 1 though. Like cake, some go for 2nd and 3rd slices if they are really good.

    Have them individually packaged.
Most donut shops have a variety of flavors at no extra cost so you can get creative with choices. Make sure they are labeled.

Hi! I’m actually doing the same for 75 guests. I am ordering about 100 donuts and corresponding donut holes. I’m in love with the donut shop, so I know that these donuts even a day old are still delicious. But I also know a handful of my guests will eat 2-3 alone haha. If you would prefer each person solely take one donut, I would find individual boxes for them. Almost like favors!
