How many cupcakes

MrsRidley, on September 25, 2017 at 12:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 25

We’ve decided to do cupcakes for the wedding. With a guest list of 150 people, how many cupcakes should we get?

I'm not really sure what the going rate is but I have a guest list of 100 and I'm getting 200. I'm going to have 4 different flavors so I want to make sure that everyone gets a flavor they like.

Susan, I was originally thinking 150 but someone told me to get around 200. I thought that was a lot because like you said, some will get one or two and some will get none.

FMM, 200 for 100 people? Sheesh. You might have some extra. Are you going to have boxes for people to take some home?

Minimum 150. Considering your guest list shouldn't be finalized yet, that's probably the safest bet.

I have 100 guests, so we got 100 cupcakes and 50 mini challis and 50 eclairs. Something for everyone.

We were considering cupcakes and our baker suggested we have at least double for our guest list.

I'm having 200 ppl and my baker said 175! I would say 150 and maybe even ask for to-go boxes. I think you'd be surprised how many people don't eat sweets

Double your guest list, I am a baker & you would be surprised by how many people take 2. Provide small boxes for any extras for guests to take home.

I'd go with 1.5 x the number of guests. Better to have extras than not enough. They wont go to waste.

I've always heard 1.5pp. So 200 for 150 guests sounds about right.

You could always order extra and provide boxes for guests to take some home, especially if there are lots of flavor options- I would want to try them all!

    ETA @Emily S is better at math than I am, 1.5 x 150 is 225 cupcakes

The bakers I talked to recommended 1.5 cupcakes per person, so 225 in your case.

If you have other dessert options though, you can likely order less.

I'm going with mini bundt cakes and my baker recommended 1.5 times the guest list (we have 180 on the invite list, if all 180 show up I should get 270 bundt cakes).

Ask your baker what they would recommend, take into consideration if you are having any other desserts, and then adjust from there.

I'd get 200. Left over cupcakes are the bomb.com (if there are any)

Confession time. H and I are those people that take more than 1. Usually 3 between us, but we share so we can taste multiple flavors. We are sooooo bad.

I'd go with at least 1 per person, 1.5-2 if you have multiple flavors

    1.5 might be safest

Thanks everyone! I’m gokng to go with at least 225 for now, and once the numbers come in after RSVPs, I’ll let the caterer know.

I agree with 1.5! We are having cupcakes and that's what our baker suggests. We are also leaving for our honeymoon a couple days later so I definitely don't want to have a ton left over!

The most common recommendation is a minimum of 1.5 per person. Personally, I would do 2 per person just to be safe. Particularly if there are multiple flavors; you don't want to run out of one before everyone gets a chance to taste it.
