How many couples are scaling back their wedding due to the pandemic?

My fiance and I have cancelled our wedding reception, we don't want to take the risk and then someone acts stupid and someone gets sick. We also have a plan to video livestream via youtube for friends and family who can't make it in person to the wedding. We're strongly discouraging people to fly in.

What is everyone else doing?

We have also scaled down our wedding to strictly just family members. We will be having a really simple church (outside) ceremony. And plan to have our big reception next year when this pandemic is over or when it’s a lot safer for all of us... wishing you the best of luck!!!!

I know a bride and groom getting married on the same day as me. I recently received their RSVP and they're going to have a reception still. These people are in the medical field! How careless are you two?! The date thing, I know I can probably get over with time but the fact that they still plan to hold a big reception after they get married and unnecessarily put their guests and loved ones' lives at risk?!

There's already a corona virus outbreak from a big wedding reception in Maine

It's just not worth it to me to put other people's lives at risk, just so you can have a big party. Brides and grooms need to be smart and careful.

Yessss!! I only plan on getting married once in my life... I decided not to let this stupid virus ruin that! If we can’t do it this year, then we will do it next year even bigger and better! 🤘🏻💪🏻

We are cutting down about 25 people so we are at about 75 invited. Some may not come anyway. Getting married December 5th and our venue sent out flyers to include in the invites to show what they are doing to keep everyone safe.
    Good luck!

I actually designed our RSVPs, and made sure it's clearly stated on the reverse that we are not taking chances when it comes to guests coming to attend our wedding. All guests are required to wear face masks inside the church. I don't care if you have an invite, if a guest isn't wearing a mask, you're not allowed inside the church.

Hey, I like where your head is at. I’m in a similar boat. Considering up in NYC we are mostly virtual, people will be eager for an excuse to celebrate and travel when it’s safe to do so! It’s a win win for everyone.

Our wedding was in May of this year. We initially invited around 150 people, but ended up getting married in the park with just me, my husband, and our photographer. We pushed the party back to June 2021 and will probably do a few extra things that we had to cut initially since we’ll have more time to save money.

We went from 150 to 50 and actually had to move our wedding up due to my brother’s deployment schedule. We made it very clear for our family to not come if they are not comfortable and will be taking reasonable precautions.

We postponed our big ceremony and reception until 10/10/21 because so many of our guests are from out of town, and most of my fiance's family were probably not going to come. Rather than stress them out, we decided to still get married on October 10 this year, in a small ceremony with close friends and family. We were fortunate to find an outdoor location that wasn't closed due to Covid, since we want to save our venues for when everyone can come. I'm looking into live streaming the ceremony. Afterwards we'll go out and have a nice dinner somewhere.

Hi Elaine! We scaled back our August 14th wedding to family and very close friends. Went from 280 to 160 invited and 105 attended. We LOVED it!! All PA state regulations we complied to, which was outdoor ceremony and outdoor reception. White tents were my best friend. Tables were 6 ft apart and households seated together. Made custom masks for guests (masks optional outdoors in PA) and some wore them or took them home. Hand sanitizer was provided at both ceremony and reception. Significant dances only and we added one with me and my brother/ Man of Honor. I wouldn’t change a thing about it, everyone was safe and enjoyed! Told by our guests it was the best wedding as we were able to really visit and have quality time. All the best to you and your fiancé!!! ❤️

We are getting married in our backyard in November (with just our kids) and next year we’ll plan a bigger celebration for 2021 or 2022.

We’re getting married October 24, and we’re not really doing anything to scale back. It’s an outdoor wedding with plenty of space to spread out for those that want to social distance more. Our reception is still TBA as we wait for the governor to say which phase we’ll be in. I expect many of our guests to rsvp no, but I couldn’t bring myself to cut numbers. I’m in NC, and NC has acknowledged that a wedding is a religious ceremony and protected by the 1st amendment. We will provide sanitizer and encourage masks and social distancing. I also plan to be upfront with guests about numbers so they can decide on their own what’s best for them and their family.

We went from a 200+ guest list to 100 (including my fiancé and I) and changed our reception location to one with more outdoor space.

We got married at our original location with our officiant, photographer, and 2 friends as our witnesses. Zoomed close friends and family in. Then spent the week at a resort. Pushed reception to 10/2021. While it was not at all what we planned i have no regrets because we didn’t let Covid stop us and everyone felt safe joining virtually.

We scaled back from 130 at a winery venue to a backyard ceremony of 15. We're hoping to have a bigger vow renewal or anniversary celebration once the public health situation allows, but aren't even trying to put a date on that anytime soon and honestly don't expect it to be before 2022.

Minimony this year with just 6 people. Vow renewal and reception next year! Did not attend alterations appointments so went with a dress in my favorite color, hot pink 😁 All of us will be masked and I am making the best of it by blinging mine up. Pretty much everyone except for myself and my fiance are considered high risk so we do not want to take any chances.
