How many cocktail tables for 60 guests

Lyndsey, on September 13, 2019 at 9:05 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

I have 60 adult guests for the wedding. How many cocktail tables should we have? It's only for an hour, all outdoors, and are having simple appetizers. Games will be out, huge property to explore. No sitting really available...it's only an hour, right before dinner. I'd like to not spend the money on tables/linens we don't need.

I would say 6-8 tables should be fine.

If you're expecting a decent amount of your guests to wander around some and play the games you have out, I'd tend to think that 6 would be ok - a cocktail table for every 10 people, but maybe more like one for every 5 if half aren't just standing around. I think the aforementioned 6-8 sounds like a good estimate to me.

I would think about the apps you’re serving. Are they one bite or would people need both hands to hold a plate and eat? If it’s the latter, people will need somewhere to put their drink down, so I would err on the side of more tables (at least 10).

We had around 6 tables out for 120 people, but people didn't even use them. Everyone was walking around, exploring, using the photo booth, at the bar, signing the guest book, etc.

I feel like many people like to grab a drink and walk around/do something during cocktail hour, not just stand around a table. I think you’d be safe if you went with fewer tables to save money!

We had 55 people and 4 high top cocktail tables. People just use them to sit a glass down but most people were mingling and talking for that hour.
