How many bridesmaids is too many?

Jamie Lynn, on June 12, 2016 at 3:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

There are roughly 160 people invited to our wedding. I really want 7 bridesmaids, is that too many?

You can have as many as you want, but I will warn you that larger parties can be more difficult to coordinate with. Make sure you wait until about 6-9 months out to ask them. There's less time for drama to start that way.

Lol I have 10 on each side and I also narrowed it down! It helps for me since I have 5 brides on each coast. They are helping me with all of the planning and are all so involved with the bachelorette and showers. It also helps with the costs! My wedding is in a year so I created a Facebook group where they are all in communication. I have both a maid and a matron in the party running everything.

Just remember more bridesmaids equals more money. Gifts, flowers, etc

Also remember that bridesmaids are not required to help with "all of the planning", or be involved with showers and bachelorettes.

Just to wanted to add, the more people the longer formal pictures may take.

We had a pretty big BP. 7 on each side + 2 ushers. If I could do it again, I would definitely go smaller. Pictures ran a little late because it was hard coordinating everyone. The cost also went up with BP gifts, rehearsal dinner, bouquets, etc.....

I have 10 and thankfully, my girls have been awesome. A larger party is definitely doable, but it can get crazy if everyone is not on the same page.

I have 5 and wish I'd kept it smaller or just had a maid of honor. It's more people to coordinate with and can be more expensive with gifts and if you plan to pay for any of their stuff like hair/make up. Also more people equals more chance girls might disagree on stuff like dresses, make up, hair, bach party, etc. I'd advise you to think carefully about who you choose, wait until 6 months before the wedding and make sure the girls you chose are the type that don't mind hearing about weddings and hopefully even helping out a little (though you cannot expect it. Some will just show up).

For me, it would be. 7 is a lot to keep up with and lots of different personalities, likes/dislikes, schedules, etc.

I had three and it worked well.

It depends on how interested you are in being frustrated, refereeing drama, and herding cats.

My tolerance is low, so I had 3

We have about 125 total guests on the list and about 7 bm & gm on the list. A couple on each side are going to get cut likely, but only because of our budget not because I think it's too many in the bridal party compared to the size of the wedding.

^^^if you already asked them you can't "cut them". Did you make them try out or something?

I have 6 and i think it's still too much, but i absolutely love all of my girls. I've known them all since childhood (with the exception of FH's little sister... she's 13 and wont be an issue) and have never had a falling out with any of them. Personally, I think any more than 8 is ridiculous.

also @cryst'l: please don't cut anyone in your bridal party unless they did something drastically horrific to you. It's really incredibly unbelievably rude and mean.

I am hoping Cryst'l has not already asked her wedding party. I can't imagine being so rude that you would cut them after already asking them.

I had 6. I have been so close with each of them for at least 10 + years, the longest being 22 years. My SIL is the only one I knew for a short time but I love her so much. There was no way to cut my list any further and I'm so glad I didn't even try.
