How many Brides do their own make up and hair?

Jessica, on May 11, 2021 at 11:58 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 21

I was wondering how many brides do their own make up and hair or do all brides hire someone for their day.

Personally, I would never do my own hair/make-up. There’s no way I would be able to do anything decent looking by myself. But some brides are good at those things and can DIY. It depends on if you’re actually good at doing hair and make-up. I’m not, and that’s why I’ll be hiring someone.

Agree with PP, I am not good at that sort of thing, and its not something i'm willing to risk! If you're confident in your abilities I say go for it!

I only wear mascara everyday, so I don’t want to risk doing my own makeup (nor do I have any I could use). I think it’s a personal decision based on your comfort level. I’ve been in weddings where we (friends/bridesmaids) did the bride’s hair and makeup.

I’m good at doing my own hair so, I’ll be doing my hair and I’m kinda good at makeup too but, I don’t want the stress or pressure that my makeup has to be perfect so I booked an artist.

I’m horrible at doing my own so hired a professional. Sure I can do it when I have to go out, but I hired a professional since doing my hair would be a mess! Lots of women are great at this, so if your able I say go for it!

I did my own hair and makeup (due to covid). I’m pretty good at makeup so I felt good about that but I’m not nearly as good with hair. I curled it and it looked fine but definitely would have looked better professionally done. Know your skills. I knew my makeup would be easy and practiced a LOT.

I only wear mascara and chapstick, so I definitely want a professional to do my makeup! I think I can style my hair pretty well, but I feel that a professional would create something nicer and it would hold better the entire day.

I hired someone because I am hopeless when it comes to doing hair and figured I might as well pamper myself on my wedding day by getting my makeup done. I'm fairly competent with makeup (I always do my own for weddings I'm in) but wanted to feel special on my wedding day. Plus, for as good as I am I know a professional is a million times better and I could have confidence that the makeup would last all day (which it did - other than my lips, my makeup did not budge AT ALL).

I will be doing my own hair, and one of my bridesmaids (my cousin) is doing my hair! All of my bridesmaids are good at doing their own makeup and hair, so that's a spot where we will save some money!

I'm opting to hire someone because (a). I want to treat myself for the day and (b). when I'm nervous/putting on makeup for an important occasion I always mess up somewhere or I'm not super happy with the result.
It's a super personal choice, though, and I know a few brides who practiced their wedding makeup over and over, who ended up enjoying it and learning a new skill along the way!

My sister, who is an accountant not a hairstylist, did my hair for my wedding because she did my hair for various events (graduation, homecoming, prom, etc.) when we were growing up so that's a special thing for us. If that wasn't the case, I would have done my own rather than hire someone. For makeup, I have a friend who is really good at it (again, not a professional) and she offered to do it as a wedding gift for me. But this is another thing that had it not been the case I would have just done it myself.

    I am!

I had my hair done for our elopement but the salon I used really screwed me over with my wedding appointment, so I've decided I am just going to do my own hair and makeup for our wedding celebration this June. I liked my hair, but didn't love it, and don't feel it was worth the cost.

Hair and makeup are pretty expensive to hire someone to do and it's difficult for me to justify paying such a high price for something I don't absolutely love. So I'm just going to do my own and if I love it great, and if I just like it then at least it was free.

No way I can do either myself (don’t wear makeup) I hired someone to do my hair and makeup. Worth the money. If you can handle that yourself go for it save the money Smiley smile

I had to pay for it twice since it was split. Better than messing it up if I tried.

I was around when my mom and aunt got married for the first time and my grandmother and cousins did their HMU.

I'm pretty good at doing my own makeup (less so my hair) but my man of honor's boyfriend is a professional HMUA so he's going to do mine for free. If I had to pay for it, best believe I'd be doing it myself

Im having the same issue and Idk what to do either. I usually, at most wear moisturizer, spot concealer and Chapstick daily. I don't like the feeling of a ton of make up on my face, and I also don't want to look too different to my fiancé as we are very low key people and are having a NON fancy wedding. It will also be late July and I tend to glisten A LOT. I dont want the make up to be dripping off my face as I am more into comfort than how I look. I will probably try to go to one trial somewhere and decide then. Unless your particular about how your wedding pics will look, I think we can probably get away with doing it ourselves but I think whatever your comfortable with is what you should do. Go with your gut.

I love makeup and I'd much rather do it myself then someone else who doesn't know what looks best on my face/skin/etc. The hair however is a whole other story. My hairdresser is doing my hair so I don't have to tackle that beast myself.
