How many bottles of wine should i have per table

joey, on February 13, 2018 at 10:04 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 36

I'm going to have 7 guests per table. The wine is basically to compliment their food but not necessarily for guest to be drinking the whole 5 hours. Ideally I would like each guest to have at least 4 glasses of wine. Think I will have catering staff serve this in case I have some heavy handed guests. Smiley sexy

A 750L bottle of wine will serve about 5 glasses. So for 7 guests, you'd probably want about 6-7 bottles each table to hit the minimum of 4 glasses.

If the bottles are on the table, you can bet that guests will be serving themselves and not waiting on the staff to serve.

Also, why 7 people per table? Normally tables seat in even numbers so that couples can sit together.

Why only 7 people per table, and why are you hoping to dictate how much they drink, or when they drink it?

I'm confused. Is this is only alcohol for the whole wedding?

It will get annoying quickly for your guests to wait for their glasses to be refilled by waitstaff, especially if this is the only alcohol you are serving.

Can you hire a few bartenders and set up a few bars/ stations at your venue? This will allow guests to get up and grab a drink whenever they like. I also strongly suggest adding beer to the menu along with the wine.

I mean there is no real way to dictate how much wine someone drinks. If the bottle is on the table I'm certainly not going to wait for a waiter to come over and pour it for me. And if the waiter is hovering over my table I would get annoyed. Even if you have them behind a bar - have the bartender let guests know there is a drink minimum is super rude. You cannot control how many glasses people have. You should let adults be adults and determine how many they can or cannot drink.

I read OP's post as she ideally wants there to at least be enough wine provided so that each person could have 4 glasses if they choose. I highly doubt she expects everyone to drink at least 4 glasses.

I think having the wine at the table is a nice idea, but agree with PP's that having a waiter serve it when it's right in front of you would be an annoyance. What if you had the wine kept at the bar, or even a few wine "stations" scattered throughout the venue? Like tables set up with the wine options and possibly a waiter to serve from there?

I wanted them to have room to eat, I did not want people all squeezed up at a 60" round table. It looks like folks would have more elbow room if you have 7 chairs instead of 8. Plus, there will be some single people there as well.

Yes, that's it. This is the only alcohol at the wedding.

Sooo, do you plan on having someone to count their drinks? I mean, I really don't see how you can monitor that.

8 people can be very comfortable at a 60" table, they are meant for up to 8. With exactly 7 at each table, how do you plan to do that without splitting up couples? 6 would make more sense if space is such a concern, but again, 8 people at a 60" is very common, and perfectly fine to do.

First of all this is a small wedding. The bottle will not be on the table, this is seated catering so wait staff will be pouring the wine. No guests will be told there is a drink minimum, that's tacky. I will not be mentioning nor talking about liquor requirements at my wedding. If that's the first thing someone is thinking about when they get to the reception, they're about to get their feelings hurt. My wedding is not the drunk party or the turn up. This ain't that kind of wedding. You want to get drunk go up the street to the local bar. This is my wedding and I'm running it exactly how I want. Anyone that can't respect that can hit the door. Guests are suppose to be there to support the newly married couple, not to get drunk on my dime. Wine will be served to enhance the meal, that's all.

Do what you want. I'm having 7 people to a table and I didn't ask for feedback on table seating, I asked how many bottles per table so the guests can have at least 4 drinks. Thanks.

Four glasses of wine to me is a “drunk party” and “turn up”. I recommend getting beer for the guests as well. Just wine isn’t enough in my opinion.

i think 3 bottles of wine per table would be enough.

The support is at the ceremony, the reception is your thank you to your guests for coming to your wedding. And it's not "my" wedding, you have a SO, and it's their wedding, too.
Seating for 7 may not work out for every table, 6 or 8 pp table would work out better.
So concerned about spending money on guests then invite less people so that isn't a concern. Beer and wine offered at bare minimum.

I would provide one bottle of wine per couple. Two people easily drink a bottle of wine when they are out for dinner.

It all depends on people's tolerate level. I was trying to be generous. There will be a lot of mature folks there, so I'm going to assume folks know when to raise their hands up to wait staff and say I'm good. Smiley amazing Beer, no.

Not concerned about money, could buy cases and cases of wine. It's what I want at my wedding. My fiance supports me because we already talked about it and he was fine with the way we decided to handle the alcohol, so many assumptions. Ask, don't assume. Again, stay on topic not talking about seating arrangements, don't need suggestions about seating. That's decided, done deal - my initial question was how many bottles of wine per table. 5 or 6 bottles? Don't know? Okay bye.
