How long to wait between RSVP date and calling people?

ShortStack, on December 8, 2016 at 12:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I know I've seen a lot on here about calling people who haven't RSVP'd, but I am curious how to long wait after the RSVP date to call? I noticed today on the checklist for WW it had a date listed to start calling those who haven't responded, but I didn't see a suggest RSVP by date.

I'm working on picking out invitations and RSVP cards, so I'm curious to when is the best time for an RSVP date.

Typically it is between 1-2 weeks before you final numbers are due to your caterer/venue.

I had to have numbers to my caterer by October 14th. My RSVP deadline was October 5th, I waited to call until October 10th, and I followed up once more with a couple "maybes" on the 13th.

My wedding is the day before yours and our RSVP date will May 20th since our caterers want numbers by the 31st. That gives me some time to track people down.

RSVP by date should be 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding. You should be doing the calling throughout the week immediately following the deadline. The idea is that people need to have their RSVP in by the due date, and you start calling immediately after it passes.

    Thanks everyone!

@abegaile The date I have been working with for RSVP is the 21st, but was a bit thrown off when the WW checklist listed the 18th as the time to start calling people who hadn't sent anything back.

My RSVP date was 4 weeks prior to the wedding. I started calling people the day after the RSVP date. We had 98 people who hadn't responded.

Typically the RSVP by date is around 1 month before your wedding date. It definitely depends on when your caterer needs final numbers by! Find out that date, and make your RSVP by date at least 1 week before it so you have time to call people!

We had our RSVP by date as 9/8/16 (1 month before wedding date), but were very lucky that our caterer only needed 48 hours for a final headcount! So we didn't start following up with non-responders until 1 week after the RSVP by date to let some late sends trickle in Smiley smile

@Knolle: That's very likely because many workplaces won't confirm time off until 30 days out. If your RSVP date is 4 weeks prior, they don't have time to find out before they respond, so they either end up saying yes and possibly no-showing, saying no and showing up, or just not responding until they can actually give a reliable answer.
