How long is your reception?

Courtney, on August 10, 2019 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
I am getting married in April and keep going back and forth about ceremony time. I'm torn between 430 and 5, but I am leaning towards 5 because I think it will be better for pictures although the time will have already changed to getting darker later. We have the venue the whole day until midnight. How long is your reception?

Our ceremony time was 4. Cocktail hour from 4:30 to 5:30. Dinner started at 6. This worked out perfectly because sunset photos were right after we finished eating.

I'm trying to decide if I want to do 430 to 1030 or 5 to 11.

    I would personally choose 4:30 - 10:30!

For us we did our ceremony at 5:30 with the reception 6-10:30. We ended up leaving at 10 because we were tired and a lot of guests had left so it worked out well.

4:30 until midnight is a long day, I think you’ll have a lot of people leaving earlier than you want. We are going 5 pre wedding cocktail, 5:30 ceremony and cocktail hour starting right after at 5:50-6pm at the latest and then our reception goes until 11:30. If you want to start at 4:30 I would think about ending earlier. Are you guys paying by the hour? We had 5 hours to start when we wanted and end before 1am, and we added the additional half hour before our ceremony.

We just paid a flat rate to have the venue from 8 am to midnight on wedding day. I think I'm gonna go with 430 to 1030.

I think a typical reception lasts 5 hours. 1 hour for cocktail hour and then 4 hours for dinner and dancing.
