How long did you book your photographer for?

Hello everyone!

I'm starting to look at photographer options and I was wondering: How long did you have your venue booked for the day of your wedding (reception and ceremony) and also how long are you having a photographer there for?

I have my ceremony and reception at one location and we have it for 10 hours, will a 8 hour package be good or should I bank on an all day package?

I seldom do more than 8 hours. These 10 and 12 hour wedding coverage options seem totally unnecessary.

Asta - Two photographers is a personal preference and really up to you. A skilled photographer will capture all the important moments and can get photos from various angles throughout the day. I personally don't think a second shooter is needed. Some photographers don't offer a second shooter (I shoot solo). I didn't have a second shooter at my wedding and I didn't feel like any moments were missed.

If you're worried about your timeline - for example, getting ready - talk with your photographer about that and see what he/she can do to get photos of both of you (it's not necessary to have the photographer present the entire time with the bride or the entire time with the groom).

ETA: Just saw you said everything is in the same place. Great! You should be good with one photographer, as long as they're a professional and skilled at their job Smiley smile

Ours is doing prep pictures, the ceremony, and the staged shots at the wedding. Maybe 2 hours?

Exactly. I never worked with a second shooter either, let your photographer worry about how they work and book accordingly.

We had ours for 7 hours--we didn't have her at our getting-ready locations and we didn't do a first look. we did most of our posed photos before the ceremony and everything was in one location. we ended up with more than enough coverage. she was awesome about working with us on a timeline to make sure she captured everything we wanted.

We have two photographers all day for our package. I want one with me getting ready and one with FH getting ready, then the rest of the time while we are together it will just be nice to have two people to catch shots! We got a great deal on our photographer, or else I probably would have planned for about 8 hours. ETA date twins!!!!

Our venue is booked from 11am the day of our wedding to 11am the next day. Our photographer is booked for 10 hours for the ceremony and reception.

I think 8 hours of photographer should be fine for 10 hours of wedding things. They'll be there for most of it.

We had ours for 8 hours. We skipped getting ready pictures and had the photographer start at 2:00 for a 4:00 ceremony. He stayed at the reception until 10:00pm.

We have ours for 8 bc I wanted to save money. I can't imagine us staying at the reception 8 hours! they do let you add hours too just in case.

We have 2 photographers for 6 hours for a normal 5.5 hour ceremony/reception. You generally don't need them for the last hour or so of the reception because people will be leaving to go home. I'm using that extra time for the getting ready shots.

We actually only hired the photographer for the ceremony, but our reception is just a meal. We will pay $400 for 2 hours.

Our contract is for 2 photographers for 8 hours with a discounted hourly rate starting at the 9th hour if we want. We don't have to decide that until that day though.
