How late is too late?

Carly, on September 4, 2013 at 8:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

My venue told me that we can keep the ballroom till as late as we want (with an additional fee). Our ceremony will start at 5. We are planning on having a live band, open bar, and a "midnight snack". We're planning on having about 200 guests. What time would you consider ending the reception, in an ideal world. I think 12:30 would be good for our young crowd. I don't expect the older people to stay much past 10.

I have similar hours. Most of the older crowd will leave around 10ish, and I'm going to let the DJ know to ramp up the music to keep the younger crowd out on the floor as long as possible (well, until midnight when the music needs to be off-due to noise ordinance).

I think 12:30 is perfect. Mine is starting at 5:30 and ending at 11:00. I would liked to have gone longer but then I'll have to pay more for the alcohol and quite frankly the money is running out. If you can afford it, I say do it.

I think 12:30 is good too. I'm one of those people that wishes fun weddings where 10hrs long hahah. Different story if it's boring though. If you have a lot of out of town guests that are staying overnight they'll probably stay later (unless they have a long drive the next day). Our ceremony is at 6 and we have the venue until 11:30.

That sounds great to me. Our cocktail hr will start at 7, followed by the reception from 8pm-12am. I think that will be fine because I know it will be a long day for FH and I, by that time we will probably be ready to pass outSmiley smile

We're shutting it down at 9:45 cuz we have strict noise laws and FH and I want to have a late night private dinner at our resort nearby just him and I when it's all said and done.

I'd be surprised that it lasts till midnight as a guest, wow how fun Smiley smile

Our cocktail hour started at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the DJ played his last song at 2:00 a.m. Most of the older crowd were gone by 10 ish, but DH and I and most of the younger crowd were there until the end. Went to bed around 2:30 a.m. Had been up for 21 hours
