How is my wording?

krisalicious, on January 28, 2012 at 10:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

This is for our transportation/directions enclosure. Please edit for clarity, niceness and concise-ness? Is that a word? Smiley smile

....Also, our hotel/church/reception are all within a 3 mile radius in downtown Chicago. Our reception goes very very late, so guests will be departing at different times. We have the shuttle to get guests there, but is it rude to indicate they can get home on their own by taxi? Our venue mgr will help us call a queue of cabs so they won't have to wait....???

"All guests are invited to take advantage of our free shuttle on Saturday. If interested, please meet in front of the JW Marriott at 3:30pm. The last shuttle will depart promptly by 4:00pm. This service is open to all wedding guests, not limited to those staying at the hotel.

The shuttle will take you to the church for the ceremony, and then on to the reception. We will provide contact information for local taxi companies for anyone needing a ride home at the end of the night."

Thank you!

I don't think it's rude at all. If I got that with an invitation, I'd be happy that I could save money by taking the shuttle and then possibly again by sharing a cab. It would also keep me from standing around all night waiting for the return shuttle, lol.

In bold at the wording changes I would make. Also - if the shuttle leaves at 3:30 I would tell them to meet there at 3:20 or 3: 25

According to my spell check, conciseness is a word.

    Awesome! Thanks!

Yeah, I figure the shuttles will actually depart at 3:40 and 4:10. That's why I said 3:30 and 4pm.

I'm still on the fence if it's rude in the first place to shuttle guests there, but leave them on their own to get home. It's only a 3 mile taxi ride. It would take about 10 minutes and cost about 10 bucks, but still. I have bridal guilt. Are we being rude?

Maybe something about how this is a headache and money saving option?

What is the parking like near your venue and church?

I know Chicago is not the easiest to find parking.

Is the shuttle big enough if everyone waits for the late time?

Wondering if you should try to do some kind of ticket system to get people to take the first trip?

I don't think it's rude at all. I think I'd prefer to know ahead of time that I'd need to find a way back after the reception, rather than finding out when I'm ready to leave!

I changed a couple of things around...

"All guests are invited to take advantage of our free shuttle on Saturday. The shuttle will take guests to the church for the ceremony and then on to the reception. If interested, please meet in front of the JW Marriott at 3:30pm. The last shuttle will depart promptly by 4:00pm. This service is open to all wedding guests, not limited to those staying at the hotel.

Shuttle services will not be available after the wedding. However, we will provide contact information for local taxi companies for anyone needing a ride home at the end of the night."

Okay, what the heck just happened to my post? It double posted but in a weird way.....maybe I'm just distracted, FH is watching boxing. Smiley smile

Hayley it's not big enough to accommodate all guests in one trip. We can accommodate around 70 guests per shuttle run, and if everyone OOT comes and uses the shuttle, we would need 95-100 seats. I'm 99% sure my extended family and my mom's friends will take the early trip though......we're German, they're early to everything.

Parking at the church and venue is free and easy. The church rents a lot from UC Hospital for services (right next door to the church building), and the venue is in the West Loop which is a ghost town on weekends. That's going on the next section of the enclosure for people who are driving.
