Hi Ladies,
I’ve been with my fiancé for 7 years now and my family accepted my FH instantly, but my FH’s father and step-mother have shown nothing but disdain towards me since we’ve met. (His family loves me and I love them!) Its just his father and step-mother who don’t seem to like me (more so his step-mother, which wouldn’t bother me so much if her influence didn’t overtake the father).
She’s made comments on my tattoos, the fact that I’m not religious, the fact that I’m not Polish (my fiancé is Polish), amongst other things.Anyway, I’ve always thought as a future wife I would have a good relationship with my father in law, but it seems impossible. How important do you consider your relationship with your future in laws?

I considered it really important and after us being together so long I thought the wedding and trying to embrace her (MIL) would finally allow us to have a much better relationship. She has since pulled so many shenanigans through out our planning process I don't know if we will ever have that relationship I dreamed of having with her after all these years she's very passive aggressive. It's gonna take a miracle. Sorry you too are in a similar position just try to stay happy and get caught up in your big day.

It's good to aim for being cordial and polite. But don't beat yourself up trying to be what you think they want you to be. Your man fell in love with you because of who you are. Hold your ground; being different to please other people just leads to emotional and psychological torment.

It is very important makes things easier. My mom accepted my fiance very quickly my dad passed away so my FH and mom get along wonderfully. I like my FH's dad he is very sweet and easy to get along with and that's who my FH loves the most parent wise. My FH mom and her husband are nice. My FH stepdad is super nice but my FH mom has a lot of drama that she likes to start which is unnecessary. We get along and were cordial to each other. I hope that later on me and her can become close, because it is very important to my fiance.
