How far out to plan the honeymoon?

Marissa, on February 17, 2020 at 3:25 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 3

We are doing a small trip within the US immediately after the wedding and then going on an extravagant trip to Europe for our first anniversary. The small trip is going to be about 5 days, just to relax and unwind together before going back to work. For the trip, we are considering Myrtle Beach because we want a beach trip that isn't in Florida (we've been to Florida a few times and want something new for this experienceSmiley smile ). Plus, we have always wanted to visit the Carolinas at some point.

That being said, we are 5 months out from the wedding. We are currently still paying for vendors, so this is why I'm asking when I should start booking flights and everything. Summer is obviously when many people go on vacation, so I don't want to wait too long. But we also first and foremost need to worry about paying for the wedding itself. I've looked and some affordable flights are leaving the day after our wedding and returning within the timeline we wanted for the trip. Also, there are cute and affordable Airbnb options available during our trip quite close to the beach - which is something I value! The whole shebang would be looking at around $1000, which I don't think is too bad including roundtrip airfare and lodging for 4 nights/5 days.

So, thoughts? Anyone else having this debate?

I’d do an all inclusive trip to the Caribbean. Groupon has some for 400$ per person.

Since it sounds like you've planned all the big logistics I would go ahead and start booking now if you are financially able. Flights tend get more expensive the closer you get to when you're leaving and the Airbnbs you liked might get booked first if you wait too long (which happened to me once, and was super sad and frustrating).

I would go for it if I were you. We’re also in a similar situation, going for a mini moon in Mexico for 6 days then something nicer hopefully next year. We booked our flights and hotel at the end of January, I was worried flights or our hotel would become limited or unavailable since lots of couples go on their honeymoon in August like us.
