how far in advance is too far to have your shower?

Jessica, on June 23, 2010 at 1:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Im getting married September 17, 2011. My aunts are throwing me a shower probably next summer some time. I don't even know why I am asking this because I know everyone will tell me its too early lol, but here goes... we are moving into our own apartment next month and we have almost everything we need except a few important items... it seems dumb to buy them when we were planning on registering for them for the shower. when is the earliest you should have your shower?

P.s. i am just gonna suck it up and buy the items, but im just wondering how early can you do it?

I read on-line that it should be about 6-8 weeks. Apparently it gives it far enough in advance that the bride isn't as busy lol. But honestly it will be whatever works for you! It could be earlier or closer to the wedding.

My wedding is August 14th and I had my shower may 16th... I think it was perfect because it's far enough away that people are strapped for cash on both ends and I wasn't busy at at all... If they tried to do the shower right before my wedding I would die! and 6-8 weeks is when you send invites out and that might be hectic too... I would say a year out from your wedding is to far... but 6 months seems reasonable...

I'm with kelsey as far as waiting until atleast 6 months. if you are moving into your new place together for the first time, maybe someone will throw you a housewarming party!

Bridal shower etiquette traditionally says that a shower should take place at least four to six weeks before the wedding. A year is way to far in advance.

Yeah i wouldnt dream of having it now lol. although the pretty little thought did pop into my head lol. we'll probably have mine in June or July of next year...

a housewarming party would work, but i dont want extra gifts or to seem greedy.

i dont even want a shower, but my aunts said they dont care and are throwing me one anyway. so it just seems like a waste to buy things now that i was planning to put on my registry, but i guess ill just put other things on it. Smiley smile thanks ladies

Mine was May 1 and the wedding is July 24. The bad news is I think you are going to have to wait to have your shower and buy the things yourself, the good news is that means less things on your registry and you may just get cash instead!

I could see a bridal shower working 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding if most of your guest are in town... almost all of my guest for the wedding are coming from out of town. I didn't think it was fair to ask for them to come for the shower and then they have them come back a few weeks later... I don't expect them to come to either but most of my guest wanted to come... and it would be way to hectic to do it a few days before the wedding while people are in town... at least for me...

I am having mine july 17th and my wedding is sept 25th... i recently went to a shower the weekend b4 the wedding and it was too close, i think. when you are tight on cash & you have to buy 2 presents so close, it was stressful (especialy when i am saving for my own wedding). i wouldnt recomend dong that to anyone. just see what works for you and whoever is throwing it. its hard to be too picky when someone is throwing you a party :o)
