How far in advance for cake tasting/booking baker?

Kerry, on September 23, 2016 at 2:45 PM Posted in Planning 1 28

WW checklist says November for finding a cake baker - my wedding is in June = so to book 7 months out according to the checklist. I know this falls into best judgement for the baker I'm looking at, how popular they are, etc on when to do it, but just curious how far in advance did you do cake tastings/book your cake baker?

We booked 6 months out, but they required 3. We mainly just wanted an excuse to eat cake.

Most places say 6 months out but ours told us as soon as we settled on colors we could come in. We did it in June.

We just booked ours, so about 7 months. I'd probably book yours sooner as you're in prime wedding season.

Tasted/Booked mine in July for a Arpil wedding. 9 months out (I can't count Smiley smile. So I have to imagine 7 is ok. I am also planning from out of town...so you have to factor that in as well.

I'm looking into bakeries right now and am getting married June 2. One place I contacted said they are really busy and won't even book consultations until late November or early December. You don't have to follow the checklist completely, it is more of a guideline. If you have other important things taken care of then why not research and set up cake testing appointments now!

I saw my baker at showcase at my venue last month and they told me to call them now to set up an appointment for a tasting.

I'm meeting with a baker mid October so a little less than 7 months out. I think it's fine if you want to start

That's exactly it! Since the checklist is a guideline it seems accurate for timing some things and other times it's completely off. Something like the cake is kind of random and can vary a lot and that is what made me think to ask you all. Thank you all for your input, I didn't want to be that bride that's way too early for something that can be booked pretty much whenever before the wedding.

I have my testing next month for our tasting. Our venue includes the cake and they said to contact the bakery no less than 6 months out. I really wanted to try cake so we did ours a little early. I also didn't want to be stressed out and forget something so I booked it early.

We had 3 bakeries that we were looking at, but I had a definite favorite, my "dream baker". Knowing how popular they are, we booked the week after we set our venue, one year out from our date. Our meeting to design the cake was 2 months our from the wedding.

We just did our tastings and booked 2 weeks ago, so less than 2 months out from our wedding! But, our venue's package includes this particular bakery as an option (we had 2 to choose from) so we didn't have to choose far in advance.

Thank you all, this makes me feel better about doing it sooner rather than closer to the wedding!

I booked 6 months out, but mostly because I had a choice of 2 bakeries and they are an hour away. We planned on when we would be in the area.
