How early should you set up a gift registry?

Jessica, on December 8, 2010 at 9:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

So I was looking at the time line here on WW on things that should be done this month for our wedding which is in July and it says the registry should be done now. I wasn't really thinking of doing this till maybe a month or so before the shower which is in April, but a friend of mine told me to do it now as well. Do you think it's too early? How long before the wedding or bridal shower did you set yours up?

I would do it now cause if people want to buy you gifts they have their income tax money to buy it and not worry about it. i'm doing mine in Jan like the check list says. you also give people more time to buy you gifts as well. some girls have done theirs already so i think your fine.

Jessica, I have mine set up already...still need to add a lot but there is enough on them at this point if someone were thinking of looking at that as a Christmas gift for us, or for the early shoppers (my SIL shops at least a few months in advance of events). I find the whole registry thing a big pain in the butt so I've been doing it in dribs and drabs. Feel free to check out our registry pages to get ideas of what items you might want to add. Good luck!

You should probably figure out where you want to register and set up the registry and then you can slowly add things to it as you get time or think of them. Honestly trying to tackle the whole thing at once just doesn't sound fun. I set ours up a few days after we decided how big the guest list was going to be and found the venue. Online is easier too, amazon has a universal registry which allows you to register for anything you can find online.

At one time I hated registries but I really love them now. Such a time saver. I now know that what I buy to give is something that the recipient wants and is in their colors and style and something they can actually use. So not only do I not have to guess but I do not have to wonder the isles using up my limited time and fighting crowds. I can even go online and order what I want and have it delivered knowing it is what is wanted.

I have gone to weddings where the parents do not want their daughters to register because it looks like they are being greedy, a cultural thing, and the couple end up with a hodge podge of items without a color scheme. So please do register and do it early. It is appreciated.
