How early is too early to plan?

DitchingDiaz, on June 21, 2019 at 1:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi everyone!

I am getting married November 14, 2020.

I have already booked my venue and my photographer. (My venue includes catering, cake, tables, chairs) Now, i'm kinda just stuck. I feel like I can sit back because everyone has been telling me i'm 'crazy' planning so early in advance.

What should I start working on? Should I wait and put things on pause?

I work full time and go to school full time as well and graduate Nov 2020 as well, so I really don't want to be stressing over wedding things around that time.

What else do you need? A DJ? Rentals? Decor?
I went into a rental store 10 months in advance and they told me I had my pick of everything because I was so early, but I WANT the pick of whatever I wanted.
I also wanted to get a ton of stuff out of the way before this fall starts and I dont get any free time August 1-December 26

I still need DJ, Decor, florals, I have to go to the vendor that the hotel provides to pick all the colors and linens, go to the cake vendors provided and taste and pick etc

I got engaged in November 2018 we are getting married June 13,2020 and we had venue, caterer, DJ and photographer booked by end of December. We took time off planning until March and have been slowly chipping away at the rest of the stuff. Never too early to plan in my opinion especially if you want certain vendors

The funny thing that I noticed is that if you plan more than 6 months in advance, everyone is like "relax, you have so much time!" and then if you are less than 3 months in advance and still planning, people are like "omg you're not done planning yet?!" this basically leaves you with a 3 month window of time where people WON'T make comments about you either having too much time or not enough lol. So basically, don't listen to people and do whatever works for you! Making decisions and getting stuff done early on is good, but don't rush yourself into making decisions that you aren't 100% sure about yet, since it is so far in advance you might change your mind. If you are very confident with your decisions then plan away, but the benefit of having so much time is that you have time to browse around and don't have to rush any decisions.

I would look into getting hair and makeup squared away if you plan on having that done. I booked my HMUA August 2017 for my Oct 2018 wedding, and when reaching out to multiple stylists they were already booked for that date. I would look into getting that done sooner than later.

I can completely relate, I recently just graduate and that time coming up to grad gets quite busy.

Our date is September 26 2020 and I have everything done except some of the little things like invitations, rentals for groomsmen, dresses for bridesmaids and the cake. Planning early in my opinion is perfectly fine because you get the vendors you prefer and have time to actual save up for the payments.

I would start looking maybe into videographer if you will want one. You can look for your ceremony venue if it's not in the same location. Florist is also an option, when I went to my florist I thought it was too early to book but she said that couples book up to even 3 years in advance. Band or DJ? Both are great options and you can book those early too! They always are open to booking up earlier. Looking into a hair stylist and makeup artist could be an option as well, you might not book them yet but you can see whos work you like better.

Currently that's what I'm doing, I was able to book my hair stylist already with the 2019 rates so you might be able to also.

    Happy planning! Smiley smile
