So we had an extreme circumstance and shower was in Feb. and wedding is in October (Originally wedding was scheduled in March and the week before the shower, we had to postpone wedding. We kept shower the same because it was a little late to cancel, plus I needed my girls!) People didn't seem to mind because it's about spending time with those who you want to be there. I say, your MOH is your MOH for a reason!! It's important to have those close to you to support you through the process..

From a guests point of view I think having it right around christmas is not a good idea, I personally wouldn't be able to afford to go to a shower, when I was pregnant with my daughter (due end of jan) I had my showers in october just for that fact. Maybe you could have a recipe party or something like that as to not expect your guests to spend more money around that time

Thank you krystal for your response. I am really taking it into consideration. Because I know once that time comes around people will be like "family is in town" or "out of money" which is totally understandable. So we are now looking at having the shower in the city where Im moving which is only a 7 hr drive for my MOH.

One of my friends got married in May 2011. Her hometown bridal shower was in November 2010. She came home to visit for Thanksgiving, and because it is a 9 hour drive, we planned her shower around when she could be in town. This shower was primarily for her family, and a few friends that either were still living in the hometown or were back home visiting THEIR family for the holiday.

One of her local friends planned another shower for her the town where the bride lived (and all of the groom's family, and their local friends).

Mine is going to be 4 months before the wedding ... this is probably a bit early, but I'll be out of the country for a month and a half shortly after that and having it right when I return would be a bit hectic. Also, my MOH will be throwing the shower for me, but she lives across the country and it is just too hard for her to fly out the month before the wedding and again for the wedding. I think you just need to do what works for you and those hosting it.

I would say 4 months before the wedding is about as early as you would normally go.

But in your situation, I would plan it when it worked the best for everyone.

I have been to one 6 months before the wedding because they were going overseas

    Good luck

I just had a surprise shower on 8/25. I'm not sure why my MOH chose that date, but no one seemed to mind.

    Meg,

My wedding is right near yours and my shower will be in Dec!

My BMs are all in school and my family has a lot of teachers in it.. it just works better for everyone to do it over x-mas break! I don't think it is bad at all!

Yea I would say 2-3 months out is normal but it's your day and you can do what works best for you! Also, some people have a couple for situations like this- anyone who is oot and then in town in december could go to that and then another one closer? But again, it's your BP or family's job to plan these really, so I would talk to all them and see what they are thinking.

I don't think December is to early, your wedding is at the very beginning of April so it is till only roughly 3 months out.

I had my bridal shower about 6 weeks before the wedding and then my MOH threw me a small one for our local friends 2 weeks before.

My cousin who is not getting married till April had hers today because there was another family wedding over the weekend. (We did not go naturally because we are broke). and she won't be back home till her wedding in April.
